Since I'm trying my hand at web pages again I got a copy of Linux. If anyone else is planning on trying it and needs help, it is very powerful and not user friendly. I'll help anyone who needs it though.

What Distribution are you Using ? I've been a Slackware user for the last 10 years and just finally tried Kubuntu, Needless to say Kubuntu is easier than Windows and without the virus problems, and is now installed on My Home office computer and both of my laptops. It is the most user friendly OS I've seen yet, also with linux you can run into a lot of configuration problems and may never get some things working as with Slackware. With Kubuntu they have a wicked add / Remove Programs, you just click on any of the thousands of programs you want, it will automatically download, install, configure for you. I've also noticed that with Kubuntu you can do more with it than you can with Slackware & still have nothing proprietary, So you can change anything. I've also installed a Lamp ( Linux, Apache, Mysql, Php ) Package in minutes and have my own webserver test bed.

I'm an old SuSE Dog. It's almost as easy to use as windoms without the constant crashes. With Wine I can still run most windows apps I need. I've been wanting to try ubuntu, but I need some more boxes first LOL.

If you want to just play with some different setup try out Amazons EC2. There are plenty of good AMI's using ubuntu and others. You can do 32 or 64 bit machines and just pay by the hours used.

I appreciate it rtrotter, but I live out in the sticks LOL. I can't get broadband, and after installing the sat internet (SHUDDER). I just plug along on this slow old dialup and drink lots of coffee while waiting LOL.
