Create a FB page, post something interesting and useful and promote it within FB. It will get you social activity, that Google likes and they will not be fake "likes".

It really depends on your swap partner and on his swipe. You can present him (or them) to your list as your friends.

I got my first 100 subscribers after I bought a solo on Safe Swaps forum. Pretty responsive and in IM niche. Now it is also growing thanks to ad swaps.
