I definitely think a large part of the responsibility falls to the buyer. I think a lot of those people that say I already knew everything know a lot about internet marketing and are simply too lazy...

Yes it is, find a need and fill it. You got it. If you create a product first you have no way of knowing whether or not it will sell. It's better to first find a need, then create a solution.
