I work on a lot of Wordpress sites, but I'd have to say that it is most likely a matter of preference and familiarity.

If you are a programmer, I'd say to learn the basics of both and look at the marketplace (if you are looking for programming work) to decide which will best put bread on the table.

If you are not a programmer, but you know at least a few programmers, you might want to make your choice based on which people can help you with (again, you can check markets to see which typically costs more to get work done for) and on how you feel about each system (set one of each up and play with it ... then decide which works best for you).

This type of question is purely opinion in answer ... but if you look at programming marketplaces you can get an idea of what custom work would cost ... and you can create a simple site with each and see which you find more intuitive.

I assume you mean Drupal, not Dhurpal?

Most people use WordPress. I know I do and most of the people I chat to do as well.

  • I personally prefer WordPress since I build WordPress plugins. It's the most popular CMS and you can get any plugin for your needs. The choice depends on your preference though.

I used both WordPress and Drupal. WordPress is more user friendly, better optimized for performance and updated more often.
Drupal seems more complicated with all that modules you need to install in order to get your site working and those will consume a lot of server resources.

So, my vote goes to WordPress.

Drupal should only be used if you have really compelling reasons to use it. Even then, you should likely use WordPress. There is a reason why 20% of the web uses WordPress. It's the defacto standard for content management systems.

    Hi Jone,

Depends. WP is usually for personal blog or small business website. Drupal is for large website with lot's of traffic. E.g Royal mail (British mail) runs on Drupa.

They are different types of CMS's that will serve different purposes.

Wordpress: this is the best pick for beginners, works very well for small to medium sized websites & blogs. It is also the most popular one.

Drupal: my opinion is this is the the most powerful and complex CMS, but also much more difficult than Wordpress.

Joomla: and you also have Joomla, which is perfect if you wanna to E-commerce sites, but requires some good lovel of technical coding.

Why do you need to know? Do you want to build a new website or do you want to learn how to code & such?
In any case, Wordpress is a lot easier to use than Drupal, most people prefer it actually, but if you want to learn more from a web developer's point of view, I suggest you concentrate on Wrodpress but do learn about Drupal as well! Some people could need your services, you never know.

if you have a mild understanding of php coding both are equally OK to use. WP is a bit easier as the GUI is pretty straight forward.

If i am making a site and i am bound to a small deadline i prefer WP as i can make a decent WP site within hour(s).
