Please help me with sendmail!

Hi all

I have problems with the sendmail function. I use Joomla and I made sure sendmail is selected in the global configuration, and the default sendmail path is given as /usr/sbin/sendmail.

Now when I enter values and click send on my site I get the following message: "The page cannot be found". The URL of this page is http://www.mysite.com/sendmail.php. I tried it with a very simple script, no validating etc. So there is nothing wrong with the code. What can be wrong?

Thanks

Have you verified that you actually have sendmail installed on your server at the location you specified? Not all LINUX installations use the same path.

There are some good notes at Release Notes - Documentation - sendmail.org that you may want to look at. Anoter good article is at How to test a mail server by sending mail with telnet - Village Elder , this one assumes you can Telnet (or SSH) to your server to test sendmail.

Also see Page 12 - Getting Started with Sendmail

    Best of luck

I'm not sure about sendmail or joomla, but I've heard of SMTP. not sure if this will confuse you even more. I'm rather confused abt it myself.

So wait, you do have a script at that URL right? yoursite.com/sendmail.php -- all you have right now is a page not found error, it doesn't signify you do not have sendmail on your server at all. (which would surprise me)

I think you've hit the nail on the head. I've been staying out of this thread because I don't know Joomla. But it sure sounds to me like a Joomla setup issue. It's expecting that the sendmail.php URL is valid, but it's not. If I were the OP, I'd be asking this in a Joomla forum.
