OK. I normally use windows but I found a great webdesign site
that distains IE and only permits mozilla. So I downloaded
Mozilla. It works fine and everyone claims mozilla is much
Safer than windows. But it feels strange to be surfing without
Virus protection and all the other protection software that windows
Has on my computer. So my question. Is it OK to operate
Mozilla without adding any specific protection?

Web Browsers are actually 100% safe. It's how you're browsing the internet that's effecting you.
Any broswer you use and visit XXX sites with (for example) of course you'll get the same malware all the time

This sounds like you actually need an anti-virus that will protect you from these malicious attacks on your browser.

I recommend Prevx as an antivirus - it will help with protecting your computer and the programs you run on it. Not to mention protect your system32 and registry.

What makes you think you are navigating without antivirus protection ?

That depends entirely on the antivirus you are using as most of them monitor the http ports rather then the browser itself.

A good example is nod32, norton, etc...

Its never OK to navigate on the internet without having a antivirus installed regardless of what you are acessing unless you are an experienced user and knows exactly what you are doing.

There are far too many risks on the internet that you can suffer from even while having an antivirus installed for instance if you have any of your browser components not up to date, if you download malicious program such as keylogger that are new and not recognized on some antivures and so on.

Firefox is the best browser out there, got it running in stealth mode, no cookies or pop ups. Also i use firebug app, awesome for doing web design and modification.

Another plugin that is nice you can use in Mozilla is noscript.

Course I find most people will get really tired and turn it off
Not sure how far you want to go being safe but one option is use a virtual software like virtualbox(free) or vmware(paid) and then install a linux distro. I make a snapshot of the virtual machine the moment I have finished patching. I call this my pristine default. I then can revert to my pristine default via the snapshot after checking out any questionable sites.
