I used to put website link at the start of description of Youtube video. For past one year, i have a feeling that this kind of links are not good for SEO anymore. I have had 2 instances in last 6 months where rankings went down after putting link in YouTube description tag.

I want to ask, should I still place links at the start of description of Youtube video or not? Share your experience on this.

Mentioning your website link in description tag is good technique, however you should need to do it wisely so that it does not look like you have nothing to show but only link.

On the other hand, it will not affect your ranking position.

You contradict yourself. I see you offer SEO services from India....

Mentioning your website link is neither good nor bad.
It's not seen by anything that matters, SEO-wise that is.

Cause and effect can get mixed up.

It is not where your web link appears it is always the surrounding content that can either boost or lower your rankings.

OK. I'm a member of Expert Freelancer - Professional Freelance Service in USA
and I happy to inform that you could still put your link on the description section. But Google take this link as nofollow. That's it. But don't use multi-link. Because it's will select as spam.

Not that much bad as many people put their links. One more thing, if your video is great, there is a chance that people came to your website to know more.

You should rely on a good quality video and use that as website promotion boost. Youtube to my understanding are "No Follow" links.

This is interesting. I didn't really know that the text surrounding the links were just as important.
It means have to go through all my video's again! Damn.

So just to make sure in the description, I can only put in one link to a site? but multiple links makes it spammy?

Google sees one bare link as spam.
Google sees multiple links as spam.

Try to have at least 100 words of content in your desc and one link - just one.
It should come right after the call to action such as:
For more information click on ####.com/#######.htm

Make sure the video is five minutes long or more.
Also, that it is high res.

Please make sure you talk about the main keyword in your video as Google now can convert audio to text and also put the keyword in your title and desc.

Good production values will get you more viewers.
A few will click on your link and these people can become customers of your.

Please remember that Google looks at the video metrics.
    • How long do viewers stay on your video
    • The ratio of down arrows versus up arrows.
    • Number of comments that your video gets - positive or neg.
Will a link help my rankings - yes. However, spam can hurt me.
