      I don't thnk they are but I could see the more general ones being more devalued by Google maybe, on the other hand I think specialized legitamate directories can be good.

    Highly relevant directories for your site give back better to your site.

    A good example is a local business getting listed in local directories.

    It has a lot of value.

    So not all directory backlinks are bad!

    Spammy directory backlinks are.. But then what's spammy?
