My client recently gave permission for me to post my articles to my own site for my portfolio and to help promote my contributions on his site. I know I could simply link to them in my portfolio or import them in an RSS without actually posing them but want to maximize the SEO value to my site without getting Google slapped.

My client recently gave permission for me to post my articles to my own site for my portfolio and to help promote my contributions on his site.
I know I could simply link to them in my portfolio or import them in an RSS without actually posing them but want to maximize the SEO value to my site without getting Google slapped.
Most of my question was answered by Clint Butler over at:

but I'm still unsure if simply setting my post date earlier than his would work or if there are other factors to consider?
