Duplicate content and articles sites

Hi All,

I'm new here and have to say, these forums are robbing me of sleep as I just can't seem to pull myself away I'm also very new to IM and am completely fascinated.

I write technology columns for a couple of local newspapers and often submit them to EzineArticles. My questions are:

1. If I also use my columns for content on a web site, will I be punished for duplicate content from a SEO perspective?

2. Is it enough to submit to EzineArticles or should I be hitting other artcile submission sites as well? What are the top sites out there?

Many thank in advance!

  • To know more about duplicate contents, I would suggest you to read Google Webmaster blog. Read here googlewebmastercentral.blogspot dot com/2008/06/duplicate-content-due-to-scrapers.html

  • No you won't, but you should put the content on your site before ezine articles. It's all explained here, and I'd recommend you read the posts by Allen Graves, JayXtreme, Peter Gibson and TheRichJerksNet in the thread: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...eza-first.html

  • Probably not punished, but you may lose out on any SEO benefit - even if you publish to your own site first, because...
    1. Ezine Articles is a well-established site. Sometimes Google picks the wrong site as the 'original' because it decides the site is more credible
    2. Ezine Articles may choose to reject your article if they discover it already exists elsewhere
Yes to the first question, if you're after back-links for SEO. It's not just about links and link quality. The number of domains also matters.

Even from a non-seo perspective, other sites will get you in front of a different audience.

As for the top sites, try this top 25 list (from an SEO perspective).

I also suggest that you look into other ways to get your content out there. Set up a squidoo.com page. Start a blog. Take a look at social bookmarking as a way to get more clicks to your content. And check out this article on recycling content.
  • Wow guys, thanks for the feedback. I'm immensely glad I came here.
  • I hear you there. I've lost hundreds and hundreds of hours of sleep over the last few years. There's an almost infinite amount of info out there!
