How to use microformats effectively in the correct way?

I was trying to find information about the correct use of schema tags, but I still have a bunch of questions I can't find answers to.
What pages need microformats? (I know private pages do not need them, but which of the open pages do?)
Is it necessary to add microformats to every single product (for example, "offer/order/description") and to the "about us" or "faq" page??
Should I add a microformat to the description page which has only plain text but has subheadings with benefits/description of prices?
I will be very thankful for your answers!
