Those activities are not effective for anything that has competition.

Look into broken links (Google Broken Link Bible, for instance).

Look into PBN's (private networks... create your own).

Look into creating one amazing piece of content... Amazing from the point of view of people who visit the websites in related niches. Then, contact website owners in related niches and tell them about how your amazing piece of content will make them look good in the eyes of their visitors and ask them to link to it.

Look into Silo SEO structures... Yukon, on this very forum, has done a great job of showing how they work... Find those posts.

There are many ways to improve your sites ranking do some of the quality submissions, use metadata, publish relevant content, update your content regularly, and use alt tags. Also build backlinks from quality sites.

Maybe your main keyword is an extremely competitive one. The only way is to get direct targeted traffic through ppc, ctr and cpm offers. You can buy directly on Google adwords or websites in your niche.

Well, the simplest way to increase keywords ranking is, by writing in-depth content by targeting main keywords and long tail keywords and then building quality links by guest posting and blog commenting. You can also use PBN if you have money to invest.

I have no idea, whatever you have done to get ranking on SERP. But I would like to suggest you some few tips :-
1. Focus on quality not quantity.
2. Make sure your website on page optimization is appositely.
3. Get backlinks from high pr sites relevant to your niche.
4. Keep focus on content marketing.
5. Engage your targeted audience through social networking sites and keep participate in communities & forums.

Hi campbelljof,

If you have done so many things to your website then you need to focus on the On-Page optimization of your website. Pay more attention to the title and Meta tags of your website. You should also work on breadcrumb schema of your website.

As you said you have done so many guest posting, I think you need to create quality back-links. First do on-page optimization and then focus on quality links from high authority websites.

First make sure on-page is done correctly. If it is ok then you have to focus on off-page. For off-page create some great content and publish them inn your branded web 2.0 properties.

Do some social media marketing for your web 2.0 properties. Try to create some tier link-building.

As other member here stated that forum posting will help you in keyword ranking. It is not true because Google consider the website's page information for the users intent and not for keywords only.

It appears to me that the competition may be too strong. Next step I'd take is to bank on long tail keywords, which may seem obvious, but if you'd also look at the semantics and synonyms of the term you'll have a lot more room to play.

For eg, if your keyword is "hotel", five stars, 4 stars, etc, come into play for long-tail keywords but you should also use terms like accommodation, stay, suites, etc.

In general, a piece of content should be tight-knitted with latent semantic indexing (LSI) by using correlating words; coherence is key to LSI and LSI is vital in good ranking. For eg, if the content is about iphones, then words like Apple, Steve Jobs, ios, 6s plus, apps store, itunes, etc, will come in necessary.

As soon as you start thinking about keeping your keyword to text ratio natural, you're producing unnatural results. The natural way is to just write and never think about that ratio.

There are almost more than 200 factors on which Google determines the ranking for end user queries. The keyword which you have selected are already 2 words which keyword and I think all the keywords are highly competitive. Your website is also new. So it will take time to get ranked for short term keywords.

Hey! A big team also can't do anything for getting keyword at the top if the ON Page of your website is not up to the mark or managed as per Google algorithm.

First, correct your ON Page then start doing OFF Page for it. Other than that optimize your website and make it SEO friendly so that it can be ranked on Google search engine easily. Give focus on Guest posting, Forum posting, Blogs, Web2.0, QnA, PBN, Video Creation etc. All these tasks are helpful and can help you to rank your keywords quickly. I would make sure your on page seo is up to par. Also make sure the keywords you are targeting are worth it.. meaning if they hit google page one will you make money from them (many people fail here)

then you need to work on your off page seo. Build strong relevant links!
