In my opinion it is a good way of doing SEO. Not the best or the foremost, but better yet a good way. If you have your keywords, and urls and other on page activities in priorities, then you can pay a little bit time to it.

I spent some time in understanding the SEO. I came to know about Forum posting, Blog Commenting and Article Submission to be some of the various link-building techniques. However, I tried to do blog commenting and forum posting with my website link on the content but I got in the category of spammer. Can anybody shed some light on this issue please?

Hello GunnerJacky,

SEO is divided in two categories:

On-page SEO and Off-page SEO

On-page is in fact the only true White-hat SEO because it relies on your honest ability to build a proper webpage, according to what the search engines and visitors like. It's about your website structure, keywords, content etc.

Off-page on the other hand can never be white hat since it relies on external sources that you will manipulate, it's mostly grey-hat, however this is not a bad thing or cheating. Since you have a webpage which does not try to cheat your visitors, you can go on and use some gray-hat tricks.

In the long run, if you are building a serious website, your content will be your source of ranking.
In the meanwhile create some backlinks and spread the word in forums, social media groups, blogs in your niche etc.

That's not even nearly true. Earned links are as "white hat" as one can get, and you can do a lot to get them. After publishing that great you need to article advertise it, and you can let your fellow bloggers and would-be clients know about it too.

Even some links that you build yourself can't be considered "grey hat". So you're active on a business website? Great, link your site while at it. People want to rate your service on an external site? See that there's a backlink if you've got some way to edit the page.

hmmm If I were you I will create Helpful content and show that content for everyone who need it ( Social media is good to do it). If you show relevant and your content can help them enough. That meant you have more close visitors or customers and sometime they can link to you. This the best way to SEO over.

I recommend white hat SEO, you think to create quality links, gradually and slowly! But very quality!

Content is important, but the site with the better backlink profile ranks higher. Just writing content isn't nearly enough.

If you want to be honest about your SEO, just provide what Google is asking: Content.
The main focus of Google is to provide targeted content to its searchers.
The only things that you need to focus on when doing your SEO is creating good content with good on page SEO. Also, a good coded and formatted website would help.

White hat SEO is an honest way to gain audiences, but it will take some time for results to show up. Plus, it is time consuming. You can syndicate your content though, IFTTT is a good tool you can use for free.

As for grey hat, as long as you are providing quality content and not spamming links pointing to your main site, you stand a great chance of not getting penalized. If you have PBNs, try to provide as much quality in them as possible. Link back to good sites other than your own, give more quality help and information.

Well off page and backlinks are still very important and they will always be.

But they only work together with on page SEO and with social signals. Everything goes hand by hand and if you lack something you will not rank or maybe you will but just for long tailed keywords.
