Blog Commenting Problem!

I have a website with a blog on it in a sub-domain as below -

www.mywebsite.com
www.mywebsite.com/blog

When I make a comment at the bottom of an article on another website I do it as follows -

Name. My Name
Email. My Email
Website. www.mywebsite.com/blog
Comment. Then my comment........

When I press post the Name turns into a link as it should do, but instead of linking to my .com/blog, it is linking to my .com home page. For some reason, it is ignoring the /blog and linking to my home page which is something I do not want. Is there any way I can make the Name field link to the blog!

  • In short no. Not that I am aware of as it's something specific to the site you are posting on and they control how they link out.

The blogs are likely set up to truncate domain names to only the primary domain. Keep in mind that blog commenting does little, if anything, to help your ranking. If you are doing it to get traffic and brand yourself, fine. Otherwise, find a better way of getting links.

Blog commenting has nothing to do with rankings but for gaining do follow links that intends to manipulate the SERP forget it. This kind of commenting method is used to provide ideas, suggestions, discussions to improve the blog site's content pages.

I think you are right! I have checked the comments that have been accepted and the web address has been truncated to link to the home page. I have gathered up 50 websites in my field to comment on, build community and get exposure. To share articles and get shared which may or may not get me traffic and links. Building community is a great thing!

Are you facing that condition only in one blog? May be that particular blog allows homepage link only.

I have checked all the accepted comments and it looks like all have been truncated to link to the home page. Thanks for your help.

If someone is giving link to your home page from your comment then it is absolutely fine. Your Domain Authority(DA) will improve if your comments can add value to the article's or post content.

If you want more visitors to your blog then don't forget to display latest 3 to 4 blogs(only title, summary and thumbnail image) in home page.
