Does hreflang tag help me reach local audience?

Hi folks,

I need your advice whether should i upload "hreflang tag" on each page of my website. My company website www.xyz.com.au. Is only launch to target Australian audience only but it getting traffic from US. because it's server is located in US. So, will hreflan en-au tag help me to reach Australian audience

    That's one way of doing it, but have you got your site registered with google webmaster tools as in there you can geo-target a specific country which will help as well

    Why would you route traffic from Australia through the US and back to Australia? That's unnecessary lag time on page loads.

    Find a local host, and by local I mean same continent.

    Your forum profile location shows India so I'm guessing it's a client site.

    Read my example how hreflang tag actually work.
    if you create a Spanish-language version of your English-language homepage, you would tag it as "Espaol" by using hreflang="es" so that
    searchers with an IP address that a search engine has reason to believe is in a Spanish-speaking country are served that page in Spanish instead
    of the English version. This can decrease your bounce rate and increase your conversions by making sure your target audience lands on the version
    of your page most appropriate for them.
