To build backlinks, I need to go to my competitors' and ask "hi there competitor, can I link my site with your site in order to build my business? I can beat you on price and product quality, but darn it, I have to get more traffic in order to do so."

Correct me if I am wrong, but is my description on point?

    You are wrong.

Why would you waste time going to competitors? Of course they are not going to link to you.

    This will never happen.

No you do not have this correct... You do not go to your competitors and ask to link with them. You do an analysis on your competitor's backlinks and then approach the companies who have backlinks to your competitors to form a relationship with them.

Why on Earth would you ask a competitor that?

You analyze their backlink profile and build it better than them.

If you're going to contact people, you contact the ones who are in your niche or will be of benefit to you to obtain a link, usually through a guest post.

It's obvious that your competitors with not accept. There are several other options to use. You can spy on them.

For instance, you can look at your competitors' quality backlinks and consider approaching websites that have built links with them. Ask them to link to you. This can also be done tactifully not directly. One good tactic is through guest posting. Another good tactic is the moving man method

Obviously, your competitors won`t link to you, as well as you won`t be linking to them. However, this is quite a common tactic - to detect the main competitors and then dig into their backlink profiles. This can provide you some useful insights, give you some ideas of the linking sources that look relevant to your niche (if you`re a gym - don`t look for a link from another gym, find a company selling healthy food, and offer great content covering both of your topics). You can also try gaining some good links in the exact same places - find the websites from the competitors` profiles that are likely to link to your site, think of the value you may offer and reach out.

I don't know if this was sarcasm.

Because if this was a legitimate question, I am really at a loss of words

It was light-hearted sarcasm. Apparently something was lost in the transition from my mind to others.

No instead you should put your competitor websites on Ahrefs or Linkprofiler tool analyze their backlinks see if you can get those backlinks or not

It could be possible that in those backlinks you will find some websites in which you will have to contact its webmaster and ask for a linkback either paid or via guest posts. So here you will have to follow what you posted.

Competitors usually won't even let you post a nofollow comment on their blog. Focus on the bloggers in your niche instead. They're not your competitor so getting a link from them will be a lot easier. Research what type of content they are linking to then create something better. When you're done contact the blogger to let them know why you think they should link to it. Just a thought. Take care.

Unfortunately, in my Niche the bloggers are the competitors. That is why I need an alternative to manually creating links.

No, the bloggers are not your competitors. Some of the bloggers are you competitors. Get links from the other ones, the ones that are not your competitors.

If your blog is about recipes for French dishes, you might want to contact bloggers who only write about Italian dishes, or people who sell pots and forks on their blogs. Do not contact bloggers who're into recipes for French dishes.

If you're blogging about home insurance, don't contact bloggers who are into home insurance, contact bloggers who are into mortgages, selling houses, real estate attorneys, appraisers and home inspectors.

Actually, my main competitors ARE in Europe, but my situation is different from the food world. French, Italian, English, German, Dutch.....they are all direct competitors and would never ever allow me to link. They also have a number of advantages over me and deliver a product at a lower price.

The only way I can beat them is by convincing my domestic (US) customers that my product is superior. Unfortunately, explaining WHY I am superior requires reading my articles.

However, your general point of being creative and flexible is a good one. I am still in the process of deciding my game plan, but it is starting to look like I will need to use scrapebox and a grey hat approach. I am still deciding.

And you are correct: Regardless of method it will be a ton of work.

Your competitors might be blogging. But, there are bloggers in your industry who are not competing against you. They will be your best choice as a target link audience.

Bloggers are easy to work with if you play your cards right with them. That means getting a feel for what they write. Pump them up a bit in blog comments to make them look good in front of their readers. Then find a broken link on their blog and just point it out to them without asking for a link in return.

Start off slow with them like that and you will get backlinks.

Provided your site has linkable assets they like. If it doesn't then spend your time on it until it does.

Every site they link out to is a cheat sheet for you to use to your advantage. Takes a boat load of reading is all.
