Are HARO backlinks Useful?

We are doing pure HARO link building at the moment for my new domain because I have largely automated it with VAs. This frees up my time to focus on the content.

We are getting links and my website's Moz DA has increased to 17 with just a handful of backlinks. But my Ahrefs DR is 1.1 and it is not budging.

I know both these metrics don't matter but I am keen to know how Ahrefs calculates their DR and if it can be improved with HARO links to the home page.

If HARO backlinks won't move my Ahrefs DR, are they useful in general?

No search engine use's MOZ's DA or Ahrefs DR, so ignore those numbers. They mean nothing.

HARO backlinks are extremely helpful for SEO. Don't worry about Ahrefs (or any other tool's) DR/PR number..

  • To be honest, HARO didn't work for me, even though I tried it for more than 15 days with no results. The reason for this was that they sent emails at three different times: twice late at night, so I couldn't reply instantly, and once in the afternoon. I did my best to reply with a proper template and all the necessary information they asked for. Unfortunately, I didn't receive a single reply or response from them. So I decided to stop using it.

The reporters who post queries on HARO are looking for a handful of replies that best satisfy their article's needs. There is no guarantee that they are going to use your quote and give you a link. You may need to reply to dozens of queries before you get one that is accepted.

People just need to decide for themselves whether or not it is worth spending 5-10 minutes composing a reply that may never be used. We have garnered several dozen high quality links from HARO and pour through the posts every day, responding to ones we can provide answers to. Each person needs to decide what their time is worth and if they can get those kind of high quality links another way, utilizing less time.

In my experience, HARO requires you to be *on it*--like a hawk. You also need to filter queries carefully. You want to go after the ones that are a perfect fit, for which you have tons of value to offer--not the ones that are a stretch.

That said, it's really a roll of the dice when it comes to link building. You never know what the reporter is going to do.

IMO, HARO is better utilized as a PR tool. SEO benefit will flow from that, but it's more about exposing your company's expertise to the relevant audience.

    Hope that's helpful. Cheers!

HARO was extremely useful for both my personal and client projects. But it takes time and consistency.

I had tried to build HARO backlinks, got some success in placing our product in a blogger website and get review post.

If done correctly, Its a powerful technique. All you need is patience, relationship building, customized content writing to fulfill Reporter's requirement.
