Should people use the TranslatePress plugin?

Hey guys,
Quick question coming as I began checking one of my clients' WordPress website. They mentioned that about a month ago they wished to expand their website's reach to more countries and, hence, languages. They decided to go the budget route and after some Googling they installed TranslatePress to their website.
From what I can see, the plugin has caused some duplicate pages on their website, and as a bilingual speaker myself, I found the translations to be very low quality not to mention unnatural as far as content composition goes.
Since I know the client would rather go the budget route I don't mind letting him use TranslatePress but based on how search engines look for the most user-first content they can find, I think this plugin is doing more bad than good.
Can I get a second opinion on this? Has anyone of you used TranslatePress for your SEO efforts in other languages? Did you notice any of the above issues I mentioned or did it have a positive effect on your website?
