How To Tell If Site Is Indexed?

Hi, I have a basic question. How do I tell if my site is indexed? All along I've read that I can check if my site is indexed if I search for my site name on Yahoo. If it appears in the search results, then I'm indexed.

But I recently read a guide that instructed me to search for my site name on Google. If it returns results, then I'm indexed.

So, now I'm confused. I have a new site that I've already pinged and social bookmarked. Now when I checked my site name in Yahoo, I'm not listed. But when I entered my site name in Google, I'm indexed (I think). So does this mean I'm indexed or not? Or should I wait for Yahoo?

Please help me clear my confusion. Thanks

Lydia

Forget what Yahoo says (except backlinks), if you see your site in Google, then you ARE indexed.

Based on what you said your site is indexed by G. but not by Y! - yet.

There is no "general" indexing. Each search engine does it individually.

I always search for "SiteName.com" if it shows up then it is safe to assume that you are indexed.
