Could This Be Googles Real Underlying Reason For Deleting Blogger Blogs?

We all know that Google is deleting a lot of Blogger blogs lately and marking them as spam. Some legitimate blogs some not.

A lot of the blogs that they are deleting I have noticed have pagerank, a good alexa rating, and are ranking well in the search engines.

Could Googles real underlying reason besides trying to clean up the search engines, Be all about Adwords, and a profit?

Think about it for a second. I recently received a voucher for $100 for Adwords advertising. With ever rising competition from Facebook, could Googles alterior motive be more money? Adwords sales are in my opinion down...Which is big business!

Could deleting thousands of blogger blogs and cutting off Their organic SEO they had built up, be a means to drive more people to PPC? To increase sales, and Googles bottom line?

Times are rougher these days. I wouldn't doubt it! Thats why the free $100 coupons they are handing out like candy, and thousands of deleted blogs that are ranking well get cut off it will push a lot of those people to the Adwords model to drive traffic.

Just something to think about! And happy Easter everyone!

    First off, no...

Google has cut blogs which violate there TOS.

How does cutting the number 1 person do anything when essentially, number 2 will go to number 1.

Facebook isn't competition, facebook will never compete with google because facebook can't

Deleting one blog doesn't cut there organics, it goes to the number 2 guy. They aint removing a keyword from there search, just a blog.

Pure guess that google is loosing loads of money.

$100 vouchers work because, if the person see's results from that $100, what are they gonna do next? Buy some more...

Edit: How do you know thousands got cut off, any links?

Facebook isn't competition? What planet are you living on? Please tell me your kidding? They have 400 million members and are the most highly visited website last I heard. More and more marketers are turning to Facebook for advertising purposes - If that is not competition I do not know what is.

And as far as number 2 becoming number 1 yeah that is true. But that marketer that lost that spot has lost a lot of traffic if that blog was making him money. All his hard work is down the toilet and whatever keywords he was ranking for will be gone. Blog gone - traffic from that blog gone - pretty cut and dry. So he has to build up traffic again essentially, if he was receiving a significant amount from the search engines. What quicker way to get a quick fix than Adwords?

Thats why I say go with a self hosted Wordpress blog no worries!

Wow, lets look at google first shall we... People go to google because they want something. They are looking for information, when someone looks for information, they usually have a problem which wants solving, how ever small the problem may be. Now if someone has a problem that means you can sell them something or get them to opt in to your list etc... Maybe they don't have a problem and they are actually looking for product reviews, they want to buy, that means Google is highly targeted traffic and qualified traffic.

Now lets look at facebook, untargetted traffic because they don't go to facebook to look for information, they play games, be nosy, write random crap on their wall and so on.

Actually that doesn't make sense, why would you then go to the company which ultimately just screwed you over?

Because Google is the biggest game in town like it or not. So love them or hate them you will go there! And actually I hear Facebook is actually more targeted than Google. Facebook advertisers feel free to chime in. I have not used Facebook yet but that is the general consensus out there.

Google doesn't own the internet, you can get a flood of traffic from loads of other places apart from Google. It isn't like if google stops, everyones income goes.

Wrong again .... Facebook is a social network, huge difference. Many marketers have seen their pages banned also..

Abuse a site and lose it.. It is that simple, good for google for cleaning up the mess that many SpaMarketers create on their blogs.

If you want something that will not get removed then go create your own blog on your own server and do as you wish ...

Except for the fact that Google owns youtube and seeing as its your #1 source of traffic if Google went, so would youtube and so would your #1 source of traffic.....

Not to mention like posted above Google control 60% of the market and a lot of services we use, like youtube, Google owns or has a hand in running.

Yah its not cool that they have such a monopoly and people will resent that but how do people generally find Ezine articles? Through GOOGLE SEARCH, and then how do people find and sign up for the forums you advertise in? GOOGLE SEARCH.

Indirectly or Directly Google has a hand in the majority of things that go on, on the net.

Google is a search engine, it caters to the searchers. not the advertisers.

What are the adwords clients doing? Where are they sending customers?

I don't know anyone personally and I haven't seen their sites, but it is no secret that Google looks at sites with the 'My Grandmother' factor.

        This is a GREAT point!

Mr. or Miss. Google CONTROLS most of what MAIN STREAM Internet Marketers use for traffic sources. This is JUST THE TRUTH!!!

There is... or has been a WAVE of CHANGE...google is going south with MOST SMART INTERNET MARKETERS.

I DON'T NOT BELIEVE IN BEING OWNED...by a JOB or GOOGLE. If you are running adwords as your main income source...you are in a terrible position. I don't care how much money you are making. GOOGLE CONTROLS YOUR MONEY WITH DICTATOR LIKE STYLE...

well, google does own youtube. So tossing it into the mixture, how
much traffic is generated worldwide via youtube and googe?

Anybody who thinks google cancels blogs because of some nefarious reason, get
real. They need to even do a better job at cleaning house.

Google has $25 billion cash on hand. And they buy companies and investments
on a weekly basis. Their empire is huge and getting bigger. They're changing
the face of smartphones with a little thing called android. Android just
leap frogged over the iphone in worldwide share.

      Google's acquisitions this month alone?
Instantiations, slide.com, and jambool (social gold)
And August aint even half over.

But like someone said. Google does not run my life.

    In my opinion:
    1. Google is not a non-profit company and it IS responsible to its stock holders! Yes, it is about money, ultimately.
    2. Blogger is there for free, but it costs google something. How much drive space, bandwidth and computer server does Blogger use? If 20,000 IMers host just 5 blogs each with the primary purpose of directing traffic to their external sites, how much does it cost Google each month to support the 100,000 sites?
    3. Do you think my numbers are high?

Put yourself in their shoes and think about how you would streamline and maximize your profits if you were similar to Google.

IMers are always asking, how do I reduce costs, reduce the time i am spending and maximize long-term profits? Does Google have the "I am making so much now I should start wasting money and giving free service to profit making millionaires?

I am not sure I trust Google entirely, but sometimes the answer to why businesses do things can be found in the Wall Street Journal.

If Google deleted my Blogger blogs, I would not turn to PPC for advertising. One does not logically follow the other.

If Google wanted to drive those people to PPC, a better method would be to come up with an AdWords option for Blogger users. Promote your blog through AdWords... That sort of thing. Such a move would be far more effective in driving people to PPC then simply deleting their blogs.

For one thing, as others have mentioned, if Google deletes your blog, the last thing on your mind is going to be giving them your credit card number. You're going to move to WordPress, either the .com or self-hosted, or any number of other blogging platforms.

I think that Google has long since trashed it's "Do No Evil" motto in favor of "Anything for a Buck or Two", but, in this case, the ulterior motives you described just do not fit the action.

    I don't think so.

Here's the traffic Google gets compared to other search engines so I can't see the advertising sales going down.

Also I have used blogger for over 2 years and I have over 20 active blogs in different niches and not a single one has been deleted (all in the same account). So I think that google is deleting blogs against their TOS and that's it.

First of all, there are hundreds of channels from which someone can get traffic, and SEs are just one. If a person depends on SE traffic only, then they need to look into other means, and they really need to keep Google happy with them. Your picture really does say a thousand words.

Anyone starting off in IM needs to specialize and focus on one strategy until they get it flowing. Then, they need to branch to other strategies to produce multiple streams of income. Depending on one source of income can devastate someone's business if they lose it.

Your list is the only thing you can count on. If your list is made up exclusively from people who came from Google, Facebook and Twitter, and all three cut you off tomorrow, they cannot cut off your list. They are your customers now.

Google can be an important tool for building your business, but it is only one fish in the pond.

Google makes $50 million USD per day on Google AdWords alone, their profit is only increasing each day.

Facebook is barely turning profit, regardless of how many users it has, they haven't found a way to monetize it effectively (and they probably never will due to the nature of the product itself).

So no, I highly doubt it. Those blogger blogs were probably deleted due to a simple direct violation of their ToS.

Thank you! I have been reading this alot lately regarding blogger. The situation I see with blogger can best be explained by examining your local speed limit.

The speed limit is 65 miles an hour. IF you go 66 miles an hour you are now ELIGIBLE to get a ticket for this offense.

Google says follow our simple TOS. IF you don't, and even post ONE thing that is against the TOS you are now ELIGIBLE to get removed for this offense.

The analogy means follow the rules, do not bend them. Sure you may get away with it for awhile, but eventually it will catch up to you. IMO the best things blogger is good for is generating income through adsense. Do your keyword research and then just start writing about that topic.

There is no need to link out of your blog because you want your visitors clicking an advertisement to leave the page. Do your keyword research properly and you will be generating some small daily income...

The only reason I use blogger is to build more links to my main site. put a little adsense, and bookmark them, but nothing major. Never put your eggs in one basket. Google is NOT the end all of marketing. Yes, they get most of the SEARCH traffic, but if you think all the traffic on the web USES search, I feel sorry for you. No wonder you have to lie about how much money you really make.

Technically, 1 is a TOS violation of Blogger. Whether it gets taken down or not depends on how well you hide what your purpose is in the fog of the blogger blogs.

      2 is profound.

I always find it funny why people speculate so much on Google's activities. They ALWAYS come back to one thing...RELEVANCY.

If you create a blogger blog with the intention of driving traffic only for sales, or only to drive traffic somewhere else, it is NOT RELEVANT.

If you are running adwords campaigns for direct linking to affiliate products the same as thousands of other people, your ads were IRRELEVANT.

Think carefully about almost every item Google does for their search engine, adwords, and adsense, and weigh it against the issue of RELEVANCE, and you will almost always find your answer.

They work diligently to purge garbage out of their systems, to give their real customers the best possible search experience. Their only real customers are SEARCHERS. All of their profits, and all of your profits from Goolge properties are based on the SEARCHERS finding the most RELEVANT material possible, which leads to more conversions, and more money spent on Google advertising. RELEVANCY drives Google's profits.

Facebook on the other hand is allowing you to target demographically selected viewers with a wide range of ads, which have NO RELEVANCY requirement, other than your profits.

Actually, it sounds like Google is cutting off people who have adwords accounts as well.

I heard from one of the 'legitimate' blogger users who lost a huge number of blogs in one day. She investigated it and found she was in violation of Google's TOS. Free hosting sites host for either charity or profit.

For charity, I mean they allow you to use the space they have for free, but you should not make a profit. I have excess band and disk space and allow friends to use some of it. But, would it make sense to me to give them what I am paying for if they are making hundreds of dollars per month? NO!

I keep reading about how mean Google is deleting all these accounts mysteriously for no other reason than to be show their power. But I spent a couple of days just reading Google's site. It is amazing what you can learn from Google about Google.

It is really simple. Create a site that provides desired content (people want to read and link to it,) is not static (add content periodically,) unique content (not all has to be unique, but it must contain something fresh on that site,) and passes the grandmother test (does it look like the kind of site that you feel comfortable sending your grandmother to if she is spending her life savings there?)

The deleting of adsense/adwords accounts, blogger accounts and the delisting of web sites is all automated in Google, well, mostly automated. Now Google has humans who actually visit and rate sites based on what the SE sees vs what the human sees when they get there.

If thousands of people search a topic and get referred to your page, and none of them wants your page, does it have a right to be in that se position? Any strategy that puts your site at the top when it does not belong is black hat. If there is a pattern to getting it there, Google will find it. They have geniuses working there to create scripts that specialize in that. When Google finds it, it will write the script and anyone using that strategy will get busted back down the ranks or have their adsense/adwords accounts deleted, or have their sites banned by Google.

    And why not?
