Search engines that are not called "search engines"

I wrote a useful little piece as a guest blog post. The intro...

"Every business wants high search engine rankings. Why? Because search engines deliver customers who have already self-selected themselves through their searches. A visitor from a search engine is many times more likely to be an actual prospect, a real lead, than someone targeted through demographics. So you optimize your website for Google, right? And Yahoo and Bing? But have you stopped to think of some of the alternative search engines that don't call themselves "search engines"? Places your target market is searching?"

The post then goes on to list various types of non-search-engine search engines and in what situations to optimize/engage through them. The post is at http://thesocialrobot.com/2010/05/ho...earch-engines/

I do plan to write more on this, so any feedback (here or there) would be appreciated.

I've worked on sites like Flickr and Ebay as you mention in your article, but I haven't been able to get a significant stream that way, so I still mainly focus on google.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

Don't know the reason for the post other than to spam
a year and a half old post that is radically outdated and
        filled with, well, not much.

Google is the biggest search engine, and youtube is
the place where the majority of people search for
and find videos. Youtube is owned by google. As
well as blogspot and a plethora of other online
endeavors. Then you talk about social media going
to challenge google. For what? Online supremacy?
        Hardly.

After a year and a half, anything that touts digg
and stumbleupon as challenging google just now
sounds downright silly. Even referring to yahoo and
bing as two separate search engines.

So again, no reason to post a post about a year
and a half old post that was thin to begin with,
        and just 100% outdated.

But is that what today's SEO experts are doing?

        I dunno.

I'm quite confuse on that but when I have read your article it became clear to me. The other site you have mentioned in your article are used in marketing. They have effect in SERP or Pagerank but they can drive traffic to your site.
