Local SEO question...

Hello everyone, first off, I am new to the forum so I'd like to just say hi to everyone. Hopefully no one will get to upset with me coming here and making my first post a question.

A long time ago I used to just come here and read post after post. Tried to do affiliate stuff for years and never made it, just wasted time and money. Well now I'm back here with some stuff I read about back then about doing SEO for local businesses that seamed like a very great idea at the time.

My question is really just asking for a suggestion on something/somewhere that can help me learn just about everything I need to know to start doing something like this. I'm willing to buy something, that teaches you exactly what this is all about. I have seen many products out there for this kind of thing, I just came to here first to see if anyone else was in my situation. Where they know basic SEO but nothing they can take and offer to local businesses. Someone who can offer some sort of suggestion for where to start. I have all the time in the world right now for the summer, but I'd like to get started soon

    You don't have to know SEO to make a good go of it, just outsource the work to someone who does while you're learning

      Do you have any recommendations for finding reliable outsourcing resources?

        Thank you guys for your responses. As for not needed to know so much, I will definitely look into outsourcing.

        Also, as for my knowledge goes, I would at least love to know what I'm am doing, how to get numbers to show how much more traffic there website would get and all the good stuff before I start outsourcing though this way I can go in with a strong/professional presentation. Also, I would like to be able to answer any questions any specific business might have. Going in there with a lack of knowledge and unable to answer their questions to me doesn't seam like I will be able to get any business to even give me a chance.

        Please also keep the suggestions coming... the more resources the better if you ask me

      Thank you very much Lemints, will definitely look into their articles.

      Also, I'm gonna try and be more clear on exactly what I'm looking for (might be too good to be true to find this, but we'll see )

      I've found some good products (or some that look good, but I'm always nervous that it's just gonna be partial and not give everything I am looking for).

      So here is what (I think) I'm looking for...

      1. Best SEO techniques
      2. What local business's are best to target
      3. Where to come up with the best numbers (basically what to tell them statistically when I bring in a presentation as for how many more views their website would gain from my SEO, all that good stuff. Roughly what the best number is to charge local business's for our service (there is a point where you go too high and as good as it sounds the business wont take it, and too low just isn't worth our time).

      Well I guess I'm sounding a little greedy lol, I'm basically at the point where I know the very minimum, and I find it better to find 1 good source that says this is how you should run your business. I would like to get my knowledge to the point where I'm confident with my business... Confident I can KNOW the I can provide the service I promise and earn the money I charge them by doing a good job.

      Yes I will end up probably out sourcing once the business grows bigger and bigger, but I still prefer I know what I'm outsourcing and how it will affect the job.

      Along with reading this forum. You could learn some things by visiting other social networks that focus on internet marketing (eg. sphinn.com).

      If you don't understand SEO, jumping into it yourself is likely not the best idea. It's a very easy way to make a bad name for yourself if you're not confident in what you're doing.

      Outsourcing your services is an option, as long as your personally trust the SEO company with your name. Remember, this is your reputation, and some SEO companies use "BlueFart" techniques that can damage business' website rankings.

      Find a mentor, or work with another SEO company for a while and learn slowly. Probably the best thing you can do right now is read, read, and read some more. SEO is ever changing. Good luck!

        Thank you very much, I really do appreciate the advise. That's exactly why I wanted to try and learn everything that I can.

        You wouldn't be able to recommend anywhere I can find a Mentor, or how I would go about working with another SEO company like you had mentioned. If there are options out there, I would love to find an SEO company to work for/with in order to learn as much as I can. Also finding a mentor would be great as I have millions of questions.
