Quick Question for SEO Experts

I have a product that I want to rank well in the SERPs (let's call it "tiny blue widgets". The #1 ranking site for this product uses the exact keyword as the domain name: "tinybluewidgets.com"

While some of the top 10 ranking sites use "blue widgets" in the domain name, others don't. But they all have PR1 to PR4 and are typically 2 to 10 years old.

Here's my question: Would I likely rank higher in the SERPs in the next 6 months by buying a brand-new domain name with a relevant keyword: tinybluewidgetsdesigns.com, or should I pull out one of my old PR4 parked domains, "blahblah1978.com" which is 8 years old and has a domain name completely unrelated to anything, and repurpose this site for selling my "tiny blue widgets".

Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    No guru - I'm just some dude. Double check and do your own researches - but my testing leads me to the following.

    Items of importance.

    1. Copious amounts of backlinks with "tiny blue widgets" as the anchor text.

    2. On Page SEO for KW - tiny blue widgets

    3. Additional on site content [more pages ] of info about topic of tiny blue widgets

    4. tightly focused and as close to KW as possible domain name.

    - tinybluewidgetshq.com

    when all else is equal the above domain trumps for preference

    - tinybluewidgetsaregreat.com

    the .net or .org may be preferred if its exact over the above 2 .coms

    - tinybluewidgets.net


    5. xml site map

    6. some more bs

    7. domain age

    8. blah ....

    9. thru 100+ ad infinitum other algo affecting factors

    Definitely you can rank well. Getting a good domain name helps you but - even if you fail to get one very similar - it doesn't matter at all. It's all with the effort you put in On-site and Off-site optimization.

    Check the other top sites first. Then see how their on-site has developed. Then do wisely with yours. Use text, avoid flash files. Put images with the title and alt tab.

    With offsite, first syndicate a few press releases.

    Try to cover social networking (all - like twitter, FB and Myspace)

    Don't forget to discuss on boards relevant to your subject. Do some article distribution and all. That's it, I think this gonna be an easy job as its not much competent. It wont take even 3 months for you.

      I give some suggestion for you.You know we can promote website through seo right?.The domain age is important in seo.Though we can promote new domain through onpage and offpage.You should put 2% keyword denity.You should increase backlink of your domain.You should put your backlink in .edu ang .gov site.

    Just Build back link with your current domin using they targated keywords and with in 6 month you will see Good result. Focus on content and link not on domin

    It depends how much work and money your willing to invest... But if a domain is 10 years old and has had the same reg info for the whole time, it will be tough, but you should be able to get into the top 10 if your willing to give it all you've got.

    Good question. It all depends on how well you do your SEO, be it a new domain or an old parked domain. I would prefer a new domain so that I can start it all over again and there will be no issues for indexing new pages. Domain name with the exact keyword does affect the rankings, but at a very low percent. So better you dont concentrate of that issue.

    There is no denying the fact that keywords in the domain used to be a very powerful way to be the first in Google SERPs for those keywords, but this was long back.

    However search engines are expected to be putting less and less emphasis on keywords in domain names for two reasons:

    One is that this has been abused spammers registering hundreds of “long-tail” domains to rank them for exact match, and second it is almost impossible to get hold of any “exact match” domains that wouldn’t be too long or pointless.

    No you shouldn't use that irrelevant domain. It will be of no use for you. You should buy a new domain that is relevant, informative and hold your keyword. Adopt SEO for your website to compete your competitors and get a high rank in Search Engine as they have.

    No need, there are only 3.1 m keyword search for "blue widgets", just do SEO and after a month you'll see that your site is starting to show up on SERP.

    If the site is actually focused around 1 keyword, I would buy a domain with the keyword in it over an aged domain without the keyword in it. Of course you should do some high PR backlinking with some profile links also, but keyword in domain in my experience gets fast results, and tends to fluctuate a less than the alternative.

    Try that out first, and remember to stick to solid on page optimization also. A wordpress blog would be a great way to go about it.

    Keyword ranking is depend on how commutative your keyword. so if your keyword low competitive then it will come within 6 month.

    I did for one keyword "Online Dating". This keyword is very competitive ..already worked 2.5 years still not coming top 5. now that keyword top 11 position.

    SO my point keyword raking is depend on how competitive..

    A new keyword rich domain is more effective than old parked domain and it is also to easier to get indexed if proper SEO is done.
