This morning page 1, this evening pg5 on an internal page?!?!

This morning I was on page 1 for a KW, admittedly not a super lucrative, competitive KW, and this evening I was on pg 5 for the same KW but I was ranking for it on an internal page not my HP (checked rankings via M.Samurai and SEO Moz)

I haven't done any Black hat or serious mega volume linkbuilding, in actual fact the opposite...haven't really done much the last 2-3 weeks.

Why have I been shifted down 4 pages from morning to evening, and why is my HP not ranking for the KW when all my linkbuilding has been done to that page?!?!

Chill out, don't let that vein in your neck pop.

This happened to me yesterday, I was ranked 2 for a keyword that I have been in the same spot for over 6 months; and now the only thing ranking within the top 5 pages is an internal blog post from the same site. However, when I check to ensure my site is still indexed, it is; so I am not going to panic.

At any rate, I have noticed a pretty big change for the sites that are now ranking for that keyword on page one, many of them do not even have on page SEO or in a couple cases, any relevancy whatsoever. My assumption is there is some testing or something going on with the algo; but do not quote me on that.

Either way, as long as my site is still in the index, I am not going to worry; and will continue updating the site and building links to it. That would be my recommendation for you as well.

Will try not to let it

I've seen a fair bit of movement amongst the other sites on the pg, e.g. a site which 3 is now at 10, but nothing as drastic as my site's movement.

I didn't think there was a big Google algorithim change?

Anyway, not a lot I can do other than as you say keep adding links and content.

Well everyone keeps complaining about the whole "May Day" change that has resulted in a lot of strange occurrences for newer sites and micro niche sites being shifted in the SE's. At any rate, if your site is under a year old, you can expect to get jerked around expectantly from time to time while Google figures out your "actual" rank.

My site just reappeared in spot #1 after disappearing for two days. Just check to make sure it is still in the index; if it is, continue back linking and adding fresh content, it will come back; more than likely at a higher ranking than it once was.
