Was just randomly thinking about this, I get a lot of "spam comments" on my posts. What do people think about editing the comment and then changing any of their links to a) your affiliate link b) a reference to a credible external site.

This way the comment is coming from a different IP address than your own but still is useful.

That's actually a very interesting idea....

I've edited some spam comments to exclude blatant affiliate links, but I never thought of replacing them with my affiliate link...

Maybe I'll give it a try..

Someone deserves a cookie! I think I'm going to start doing this since I get a good number of people posting their affiliate links on my blog.

on a blog the search engines wont know it is a different IP unless you are posting IP's publicly.

As far as spam comments and changing the links, I would personally reject all pure spam comments and not try changing the links over.

I'm sure you could easily get away with changing spammer links and it probably isn't that big of a deal.

It might help you make a few bucks, but it might also turn off some of your visitors.

I guess it all depends on what you are trying to achieve in the long run.

    Good luck.
