Can't figure out Adwords

I setup an Adwords account. It started out with what I thought was pretty poor performance; something like 3000 impressions and 6 clicks over 3 or 4 days. It was never hitting my max bid of $1, usually only about $0.44 per click but it was showing steady activity. Now for the past 3 days it has shown no impressions and obviously no clicks. It still shows my budget at about $195.

Also the keywords thing has me a bit confused. There is a Google tool that suggest keywords for your site and somewhere in the documentation it says there is a limit of something like 5000 keywords but somewhere else in the documentation it says you should only use 3 to 4 keywords. Right now I have about 6 or 7 keyword phrases. I picked keywords that were only getting about 300 searches a day with medium to low competition.

Anyway it seems all activity has stopped. No impressions, no clicks. The ad shows to be active.

What is it I'm missing?

Your Quality score might be low...they might now showing your ad so later on they can send you a warning letter.. You either can pay an arm and a leg for more impression or you can stay away from google adwords... and do something better with that money...

Run, not walk away from Adwords. Google has made it darn near impossible to get quality results for IM campaigns with Adwords. You will more than likey have to pay some ungodly amount per click for profitable keywords and raise your daily budget through the roof.

Don't try to do this alone

Scan the WSO section for a good ebook or course on advertising on the Content Network

Far more cheaper than the search network

Be very careful with this if you're just getting started with PPC or you can lose a lot of money really fast.

Unless you've got a few hundred $$ to burn while you're learning you might be better using other methods to generate some income with first.

Another issue with a new account is that you will generally have to pay more per click because you have no account history and probably a low QS, by the time you get it figured you might have a low account QS which makes it difficult to recover and compete effectively.

          Best of luck,

I don't think 6 clicks is enough to analyze the conversion rate.
That's what I mean about how much it can cost to learn, you probably want to be looking at 100 clicks minimum for each keyword and probably more like 400-500 to really start to optimize them so at $1-2 per click it's not cheap to get your campaign running, optimized, and into profit.

            If you're lucky!

OK so I have this advertising budget and Adwords is looking like a bust. So what would be a good way to promote traffic. I know there are people who will guarantee x number of visitors but I'm pretty sure they are plans that just get people to click on ads so they can win a prize or something of the sort. I'm looking for something that is going to get targeted traffic.

I've submitted articles and I have used a couple of backlink services. Not really seeing any results. That's why when I got the money to advertise I thought I would be able to generate some targeted traffic.

Or you could just turn it over to a professional that knows what he is doing. I'm just saying...

          Hi ronc0011,

In case you haven't given up totally, here is what I advise: Take a look at you Quality Scores.

Quality scores are based primarily on click-through-rates. So if you keywords stopped generating impressions after a few thousand impressions it's highly likely that your CTR is below average and you can correct this condition. The tools built into your account will provide enough information to determine if this is the cause. Please take a look and let us know. We can help you resolve the issue and move forward.

However, if you have already decided to get out of PPC, thanks getting out of my way.

The niche is "make money online" or "work from home". I have the daily spend limit at $20 and the CPC set at $1. Though I just lowered that last night. It was set at $2.

The site promotes GDI or Global Domains International.

Not real clear on how they arrive at quality score. I have another site that is a blog site but I'm thinking for a sales site it doesn't really work. Too verbose. I don't think most people are going to read through all that to get to the offer. The sales site on the other hand is mostly h1 and h2 text basiclly making a few points and calling people to sign up.

I don't think 6 clicks is enough to analyze the conversion rate.

The site I'm running the ad for is
    Income Online
    the blog site is
Making Money On The Internet | Making Money On The Internet

I just recently got some money from an insurance policy and I wanted to put it to work for me by doing some advertising. But I don't just want to throw money against the wall to see what sticks.

Without more details, we can only make guesses.

Given the information, my first guess is that you're using the display network. Unfortunately, and this is my biggest beef with Adwords, it is turned on by default when creating a campaign. Turn it off.

As it was on, you may have got all your impressions and clicks from the display network. What happens is that, to get data as quickly as possible in order to make it's quality calculations, it over-serves ads the first day or two. With enough data and given likely poor quality, your ads are not showing as much, as they would normally. which is apparently not often. Competitors are out-ranking you. So you either increase bids or increase ad quality or both.

Now the first thing to do is not to mix search and content. They should be separate campaigns. There is no QS displayed on content network campaigns. Your quality is pure click rate unlike the search network where it's about 65%.
