So what does everyone think about googles new algorithm. As in how do you think it will affect the way you do business in IM?

If you missed it, here's the link.

It's a step in the right direction from Google and will have no affect on the way I make money on the internet.

I first wanted to write a little sarcastic comment about Google's "new" algorithm (because, quite frankly, google is ALWAYS changing something) - but decided to give some better input instead.

If we, for example, check "lose weight" right now we can indeed see some significant changes as compared to a few weeks ago.

I was very mad seeing some crappy "made for adsense" sites #1 for such keywords, those seem to be lower now.

But now we see again all those wikis and *.gov, about.com wikihow, webmd etc.

This is very similar to change a couple (?) or so years ago where they introduced branding...eg search for "insurance" and you will see all the big brands like allstate etc. dominating google.

While on one hand i like the change (it supports quality sites with quality content) and penalizes the lazy people with their Adsense sites....so i dont like to see such mega sites like webmd, wikipedia etc. dominating basically all of the top Google positions again.

Wikicrappya is dominating so many niches ALREADY, its painful. So for some niches even with a very good site and quality content you will have it very, very hard to compete with sites like wikipedia, about.com and those government sites.

For the "lose weight niche" (this is my example, didnt check other niches)..there is NO POINT WHATSOEVER that sites which already enjoy monstrous traffic and exposure (webmd, weightwatchers etc.) gain even better and even more solid rankings. What's the point?

Whatever they changed, even a "small" and unknown site must have a reasonable chance to compete...given it has quality content and becomes known. If the new algorithm would make it impossible to even come close to the moguls like webmd, wikipedia etc. then i however question those new changes.

Overall, i welcome the change since the last months i simply often couldn't take the crappy sites anymore which ranked #1 for many niches. Sites BARE any content, pseudo-review sites, empty sites, sites which only have the keyword in the domain name. What a nonsense.

So..if google changed to indeed favor QUALITY i think that's good.

As long as you are putting out good sites with good content, and are using good SEO practices, you will rank well no matter what changes Google makes to their algorithms.

It sounds like a good change from what I read. Just produce quality content and give your readers what they want. I'm sure it will be fine.

Thing is your interpretation of quality content will certainly very from my interpretation and Google's interpretation of what they think good quality content is, and it's not necessarily the length of the content.

I'm not seeing any major changes to my traffic. I have about 100 sites, of which 20 I watch regularly, and I don't see anything dramatic. If anything, I am up for a couple of sites.
