How hard would it be to rank something with 1,000,000 monthly global searches and 550,000 local searches?

It would be a new website, made in wordpress.

Also can you give me some programs that would make it easier?
Also should I use anything other than adsense to monetise? (i know others just i have never used them.)

Competing pages do not matter. Focus on the top 3 results and analyze that competition.
