Hi everyone..

Recently set up a site as you can see in my sig.. I have been going down and down in the alexa ranking as in 2 weeks ago I was ranked 1.9million now I am 400000 in the world!

Is this normal, I have been getting a bit of traffic around 150 - 200 visits daily but will it keep rising? and does this mean anything? I am quite new to web seo and stuff. Really I just wanted to see what your thoughts were on Alexa ranking and if it tells you anything or is there any point getting excited about it lol ?

EDIT: It's good but nothing to get excited about. Focus on your actual traffic and sales.

It's practically useless, and it doesn't mean anything. You should be focusing on your own traffic numbers only.

I see... but surely it gives you some indication of how your site is doing on a worldwide or even an individual scale for each country?

Obviously I would be focusing on my own traffic numbers but would it not give you a good indication of how well I am doing say I got 5000 visits from america in one month I would have no idea how that would rank me this way I would know that I am "roughly" 200000 etc?

You just focus of your traffic numbers and alexa rank good for website service like selling link or paid to review.

Alexa ranking can be easily faked as well. 1 person going to your site over and over again with the alexa toolbar installed can increase your ranking by as much as 200,000 so dont put so much emphasis on what you rank. however it is nice to know sometimes where you might stand.

I think going down is being interpreted differently due to the comment on if your sales are going down also by Ron Douglas. It would appear to me that his version of going down means he is improving. 1.9million versus 400,000 since the lower the number on Alexa means more popular. Give yourself a pat on the back and enjoy the traffic. But like they said numbers only matter when they translate into sales

LOL, that's what happens when you read a post too quickly. My bad

It's supposed to go down. I noticed if I consistently add new content to my site my alexa ranking improves (the number goes down) . I had a site with a 500.000 alexa ranking but I didn't add any new content for months and my alexa rank went back to millions.

But it doesn't really mean a thing,I mean you won't be getting more visitors because of your alexa rank.

Alexa Rank and Page Rank are good in measuring your site's stats but yeah.. how accurate they really work is still debatable since the numbers can be manipulated in some way.

LOL, Alexa is a bit inaccurate. My site jumped from 5 million to like 100k when I installed the Alexa toolbar. XD

Yes I agree that Alexa ranking is a bit inaccurate BUT Let`s ask ourselves a question - When I see a new site how many of us see it`s Alexa ranking?
Am every sure that max number of people see it.
Not that Alexa rank can increase SERPs but it MAY given a positive impact on users.

So it`s better to have good alexa rank.
