Duplicate Content

Guys and Gals

I am a little confused, i have always been told that you should never submit the same article to more than one Article Directory. I was watching a video with Mr. Ed Dale in it and he said that you can submit the same article to as many sites as you want.

What are your thoughts?

The articles i submit are original currently i am submitting them to 5 different sites, my blog and 4 others.

I am just about to purchase Article Marketing Robot which submits to 1000 or so directories am i wasting my time.

Any advice that you guys could give me would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks In Advance

  • I think that you should either post it to your blog or post it to 1 or at most a few carefully selected article sites. Using auto submission is generally not a good idea as you will most likely be submitting to lots of sites of questionable quality which will devalue and dilute the value of your nice origional content.

This question comes up at least once a day.

It isn't actually about duplicate content at all. It's about syndicated content. The fundamental difference between the two, and its significance, are well explained ("by some"!) in this thread.

Full marks to Mr. Ed Dale, then - he got it right (no big surprise, I think?).

The best advice I can give you is to read this entire thread slowly and carefully, not only for the "main theme" but for all the incidental chat, too. In it, a whole succession of successful, professional, experienced article marketers explain in detail their (shared) reasons for doing exactly what they do. It'll take you maybe an hour and a half to read it all carefully, but it really is well worth the time-commitment. It will answer not only most of the questions you have now, but many of the questions about article marketing you'd (otherwise) have in future, too.

Personally (and here I'm moving from "fact" to "opinion") I would not buy submission software and would not submit to 1,000 article directories. I used to do that. I gave it up with a sigh of relief over 2 years ago and have never looked back. My reasons are explained in this little thread.

This post from yesterday also offers an overview of the situation.

  • Don't use the same article to be safe. Google will not penalize you for duplicate content, but it will never give you any benefit at all.

    • WRONG, WRONG WRONG!

Oh, the misinformation in this response and similar threads. Read the thread Alexa has supplied a link to.

  • as of right now I have moved to a neutral position concerning duplicate content and article writing type stuff.

I think everyone else should have a look as well very carefully over the next few months because of this big panda update from Google in which they are most likely going to suppress the value of what has been a flood of mass article writing and content distribution.

A lot of people are screaming right now about their rankings taking a hard-core dive over the last few months. Were they doing mass content distribution? unknown. But if we look at it from googles prospective and over the course of Google history... What we do know is that Google eventually devalues things as they become spammed out.

So I think it's an appropriate time for Google to make such a move to suppress or eliminate the flood of article writing and mass content distribution.
  • very interesting. i always thought of dup content as a deathwish but then i always wondered, what if people are genuinely stealing your content, how can google punish the correct site. much like people think about spam links. no way for google to punish for that either.
