What's the best Backlink Checker?

I'm trying to research my competitors but the free tools such as SERP Attacks are not accurate. Also, Market Samurai doesn't display the links.. Do you know how i can get a good free tool?

I don't know for Free tools....but I use from Aleksander "Magic Rank Tracker" ...hit in Google and you'll find it. it's not so expensive !

I use SEO Quake's as a good reference. Of course, you said it yourself, it's free so don't expect it to be completely accurate.

  Here is an idea: Have Awesome, continuous, helpful, useful content on your sites, and the backlinks will take care of themselves - over time, you will get all the juice you need.
  
  Then, track your incoming traffic. That is the most relevant and useful backlink knowledge.
  
  The only Juice I care about, is the juice that brings customers.
  
  My opinion of course, YMMV.

I used Blue Backlinks and another called back link watch but Im not sure how accurate they are. Does anyone in the know have an opinion on these?

Dude...the free tools won't give you an exact picture... and with yahoo site explorer closing down at the end of the year I think that you should start looking at some paid services.

Personally I have a full membership with Majestic SEO... this guys crawl the web regularly and have build a large index which is pretty awesome... I have tried many services in the past but you know what... most of them just don't deliver.

Another tool that I use is SEO SpyGlass they will show you up to 1000 back-links if you use their free package.

Every search engine require unique query to check back links, According to me you should try yahoo to find back links because it shows every back which Google don't shows And you can check you back link in yahoo with site:www.one.com query

  Putting the joke aside, as stated above, free tools are free tools. So, you can't expect accuray from them.
  
  As I see, MajesticSeo has free and paid possibilities. To know where your competitors get links from is where their tools move from free to paid. You can use that option which is affordable for you.
  
  Seo SpyGlass also has three option, but I haven't tried it yet.
  
  Anyway, Traffic Travis Pro also can give you a significant info about your competition and their backlinks.

I for the life of me cannot figure out why marketers are so keen on tracking their backlinks. From the beginning I realized it is better to submit more backlinks out than it was to waste time tracking what I already sent out. It's not like the SE's are going to report back 100% of the links that are giving you juice. Then throw on top of it the fact that the software will not report 100% of the links in which the SE's report to them. In the end it all seems like a colossal waste of time. Because I have this attitude we were able to generate over 2000 page one Google rankings in the last 12 months.

I use ScrapeBox to check backlinks. It can be used for many different purposes once you know how.

Regarding the reason as to why someone might check their backlinks, well, you can check your competitors backlinking patterns and SEO efforts and see how you measure up, but that is not the main reason why I check. I check to see what linking efforts have been working for me and what helped to raise pagerank etc, I just like to know as I think it gives me a greater perception of what is working for me.

You could simply just get on with it and not check anything but google rankings, but I like to see constant progress and numbers.

  The problem I have with getting a list of backlinks is that you also need to know if that backlink is providing value - I suppose if you match your backlinks against your traffic stats and can verify that a particular backlink is giving you both page-rank juice, and real visitors - then indeed that is a valuable link.
  
  But to me, while that data may be somewhat valuable, the real thing is knowing what draws a visitor, and more importantly, what draws a prospective customer... Backlinks address only a single issue within SEO and customer acquisition as a whole, and that is the issue of find-ability.
  
  What then draws the customer to go to, and ultimately devour your content, and pull out the wallet? The answer, as it has been since the first cuneiform advertisement, is content.
  
  I have discovered over a long and difficult path that if the content problem is solved, the other issues seem to take care of themselves. Sure, you can tune things up, and you should know the data behind your business, but I feel too many marketers (and I include myself in this list) get so caught up in the numbers, that the content becomes a side issue...
  
  And it should always be the main thing.

I have tried several backlink analyzers both free and paid, in my opinion SEO Spyglass is the best desktop based software for this task.

You can use SEOQuake as an addon for firefox otherwise rank checker from seobook is also good.
if you have time and patience than you can do it manually by using SeoElite and IBP, they are having the feaures too..

If you are wanting to check out your competition's links I recommend buying SEOSpyglass, from the link-assistant.com guys. Affordable and does exactly what it touts.

You can also utilize scrapebox to check for links, which is a really nice tool that I use a lot.
