Yes, you can try SEO Book and Google's Starter guide. However, I think that SEO Book is a bit too complicated for a complete newbie, while Google's Starter Guide has a strong bias (Google is Google, you know).
So, for a complete rookie, I'd recommend SEO in Practice. It has lots of examples, everything is nicely explained, and it's fun!
