OK so what do you think the real story is on duplicate content?

1) is content that passes copyscape is it 100% unique ?

2) if you syndicate the same content does google index all of it or do you get penalized
3) If you spin content what the % in which google doesn't think is duplicate.

4) how do you get great results in the serps when using content for backling

  • If you are looking to get good rankings in Google you need fresh and unique content. Focus on quality not quantity. One well written and informative article will earn you more than 100 that you got off an article site.

1.) No, Unique content is something that was not edited or copied in any shape or form. Just because it may not get classed as duplicate content now I am pretty sure it will in the future the way Google is heading.

2.) Only Syndicate parts of content if you really want too. It's much better to just re-write it if you don't want to write new content yourself.

3.) Unless you are extremely good at spinning and spin words in every sentence Google will usually work it out.

    4.) Answered above

Trust me just focus on quality my friend and you will go far!

    • OK so if you have a fantastic article on your blog about 1200 words but it still doesn't rank. we all know that in order for it to be high in the serps we need to backlink. how would you backlink that article. I think that contextual back links are the most power type of back link.

But my question is if i stick a article on a web.20 site with a contextual backlink, for each web 2.0 i create a article for, could you spin it or should each web.20 be 100% unique

  • Hi Marley

I am not sure if i totally understand your question but are you talking about creating web 2.0 for back link purposes only?

If so I would just spin an article really well but don't use that article more than around 10 times.

So for example if i were writing an article on dogs this is how well i would spin it.

    {i love dogs|I really adore dogs|I admire dogs} because {they are so cute|they do such silly thing}

and continue that the whole way through the article, next i would build a few back links to each web 2.0 to make them more powerful
  • Duplicate content and syndicated content are not the same – and you seem to be confusing them.

Duplicate content is when the same page appears more than once on the same site (for example when a site has an article page and a matching “printer friendly” page). This is only a problem if it happens a lot – as it will cause the google spider to “get bored” and leave (I’m paraphrasing here!)

The same article on more than one site is not considered “duplicate content”

Think about it – most “news” sites publish press releases, either as the story on its own or with a little tinkering around the edges. If this was “duplicate content” and there was a penalty for it, then most news sites would sink without a trace.

Regarding syndicated content – you don’t need to worry about that (as long as you get your page indexed first!) it is only the sites that take that content – they need to make sure they have original content too!

(It is possible for another sites copy of your article to outrank your – but that is usually temporary. I’m also not dwelling on this issue because this probably isn’t a big concern of yours right now)

There is no need to spin content – so questions about percentages are irrelevant.

    as for this question
The quick answer is – you don’t!

The whole area of SEO is moving more and more toward quality rather than just quantity

You will probably find this post, and its links a helpful read.

This really isn't right at all, Daniel.

Have a look at some of the other threads in this forum in which this matter's discussed: they're full of links to Google SERP's front pages, some of which contain as many as eight identical copies of the same article.

      This happens often.

True, slightly less often now, after the Panda updates, but it's still by no means unusual for Google SERP's to show two or three identical copies of my articles in its top ten, and I know that many other article marketers find the same. The theory of how Google's algorithms work and the reality are by no means the same thing.

No facts at all - just conjecture.

Folks, PLEASE stop representing OPINIONS as facts.

I'm with Alexa. I see MANY of my articles in duplicate and triplicate on the first page. Unfortunately, though, some are almost always sans my author box or other links.

  • I don`t think that just spinning the content can make an article unique.... Search engines are more smart that they can know about the copied and spun content
