Hey Guys,

I'm currently ranking #9 on Bing and #10 on Google for my keyword, so I'm sitting at the bottom of the first page (in this Market Samurai screenshot, I'm second from the bottom).

Do you have any tips that may help to boost me up higher?

I've been building links but they don't seem to show in MS.. why is this? On Alexa it says I have 133 links.

As always, thanks for your help

I don't see how that chart could help us give you advice on a keyword.

You need to be looking at the quality of both the internal & external links of the competition.

I'm not asking for advice on a keyword; this is a screenshot of where I rank with my competition and I'm asking if the reason they are ranking higher than me is solely because of the number of backlinks they have.

I also see that only one site has .edu/.gov links. So for example, if I got 20 or so of these kinds of links, how would it affect my ranking? How much weight do they have?

Again, the screenshot shows nothing related to the quality of links the competition has.

Counting links doesn't tell you anything, 1 relevant PR6 link could easily beat 500 non-relevant profile links. Counting links isn't the same as researching link quality.

To answer your question, No, your competition isn't ranking simply by having more links.

Just keep building links. Backlink checkers are only used as a reference.

Very easily I can tell you: You need to get your BLP up just to juice up that page specifically. And you want to do that from as many domains as possible, which means get your RDP up as well. Your on-page is rocking. Get that off-page back linking moving.

I can tell you if you got 10 - 20 .edu/.gov backlinks your rank would shoot up immediately. However I think to get to first you are going to have to focus on high PR backlinks from a lot of domains. You are definitely on the right track though!

Also: If you havn't already make sure you register your site on DMOZ on Yahoo. It will take time for you to get in so the sooner the better. And having those two will also give you a nice boost.

Firstly don't go blasting your sites or using backlink services that offer thousands of backlinks in a short space of time.

To quickly find yourself moving up the ranks just a quick tip for you :

Make sure you have google toolbar installed that shows page rank.

    Go to Google blogs

Search for related blogs in your niche.

Find high page rank pages related to your niche and go and read that article.

Now simply make a comment that is related to that article whilst also leaving a link back to your site.

I've always used this method in building backlinks (with other diversed methods)

Your comment will not always be instantly accepted and published but in time the blog woner will read your comment and find it being related to the article your commenting about. This will make them accept and publish your comments and you will find yourself obtaining high page backlink links in your related niche.

These kind of links will improve your search engine position in no time.

    Regards,

Slow and steady wins the race...just keep building content and building backlinks, the rankings will slowly rise in time. If it's a competitive term that's about the best you can hope for.
