I bought a domain and everything checked out interms of spoofing PR ,backlinks and traffic. The site was a spanish site and I changed to a english site offering different content,I started building quality backlinks and bookmarks as well as articles and now the PR is 0, down from 3. Any pointers as what I should do, and why is this happening?

Thank you

You have to accept the PR will drop in many cases, UNLESS you can put up a website that is almost identical to the original one. I have some experience of this before, many years back. The drops will be 1-3 PR. i.e PR 4 to PR 2.

Some people go to the extent of recreating the inner page URLs as well. Maintaining the language and topic is very important.

Also, if the linking pages (incoming links) dropped in PR, your site will naturally drop in PR.

This is completely false. The content of the site has nothing to do with the PR.

Now, the site structure if it had a lot of internal links could have an impact on the homepage's PR, but that still wouldn't show up until the next toolbar PR update.

It is likely just something temporary showing up and will readjust once Google recrawls the site.

Also make sure you have the correct www version of the site. Sometimes the non-www version will have the PR or vice versa, but not both.

The ONLY thing that will cause a drop in PR is the loss of backlinks. As long as they are still there, the PR will still be there.

The other possibility is that you missed something and this was a fake PR to begin with.

Yes it does, but this might have to do with link decay too. You surely do not expect the Google bot not to recognize the content has changed, if not now, surely later on?

I find it hard to believe you can get an expired domain, change its content, and then maintain the PR later on? I know a certain blog network was doing this, and most of the domains always lost PR soon after. Doesn't work that way....

I also have gotten a PR 5 and after putting up a site on it, the PR dropped after the next update. But what do I know, you're the expert here

Sure Google is going to recognize the content has changed. That still has NOTHING to do with PageRank. PageRank is a measure of the quality of incoming links. Content does not effect the PR.

And yes, you can buy an expired domain, completely change the content, and still maintain the PR for years. As long as the links stay there, the PR will. That is part of evaluating a domain before buying it. You need to study the backlinks and try to make a determination if they are links that will remain or are likely to disappear.

But again, the content of the site has nothing to do with the PR.

I know the intent of what you are saying, but I feel that it's important to point out that if you take over a domain and completely change the structure of the site, you'll almost certainly have a lot of dead backlinks, ie: backlinks pointing to non-existent pages.

At the very least, you should create 301 redirects from those pages to an appropriate page within the new site structure.

Not necessarily that will PR drop,I purchased 8 month ago domain from auction it was expiring domain which was registered by 2003 and when I purchased domain it had PR 6 with content on it relative to the "credit card" niche site had over 50 pages of content the domain also doesn't include any kw relative to my niche I got domain I installed word press and add my own content for my niche and start to building links to that site I got site ranked #1 on Google for targeting kw in less then a month and site is still ranked #1 since I purchased domain 8 month ago it had PR 6 now it has PR 8 so I have to say I haven't notice any PR drop after I changed a content, some site may drop PR but I haven't experience this in my domain that I purchased from auction, it did work great for me...

Yes, the structure of a site can cause a loss of backlinks, which goes back to my original point of losing backlinks causing loss of PR.

Also, even if you lose backlinks that way, the change in PR is not going to show up until the next PR toolbar update.

To get back your website page rank you need to create back links on the websites which has already a high tune of page rank. So that these websites can drive link juice to your website and it will beneficial in page rank.

because Google realized that your website is completely changed to a different niche. That's why according to its policies it dropped its rank. Now you have to build up again

I think the content of your site is not a quality content, when visitor comes to your site may not get the relevant information. So, you have to focus on content that provides actual information to visitor for which he comes to your site.

Pr has nothing what so ever to do with the content, rather the pages pointing to your pages. Quite likely the inner pages had pagerank but you did not rebuild the inner pages, the links pointing to you in which that orignal page has pr, passes pagerank.

I'm amazed at the responses here and stupid knowledge of pagerank, get your facts straight guys and learn how pagerank works.

Mike's the only sensible one who pointed it out, pisses me of even more that not knowing anything about pagerank you guys are "guiding him."

I've seen this a lot the passed few days. Google seems to be deindexing a lot of links, so you'll inevitably lose PR if you're losing backlinks.

The problem isnt with the content, the content is good and it has over 6000 links to the site and I use redirect to make sure links to internal pages dont get 404 error.

I built some articles and more unique content and tumblr backlinks of over 200 pr 7 to 5 with low obl(40 obl per page) .So we'll see.
