check the quality of your web content and the backlinks. If you are getting spamy links then remove them and update. If the quality of the web content is not good then write unique and interesting content.

Check your Google webmaster, if suppose you get some messages from Google. Make your backlinks are quality and use unique content.

When did you lose rankings? recently or in April? The reason I am asking is because there was an update on 25th of July and that was panda 3.9 and not Penguin.

  Firstly, try to get your backlinks removed from the spammy and low quality websites and then analyze your content. If the content is of low quality, then try to add fresh and informative content on your site. Also, if you have implemented any type of black-hat seo techniques like keyword stuffing, hidden texts etc, then get rid of them ASAP. Also, try to diversify your keywords and anchor texts.
  
  For getting new and quality backlinks, do guest posting on high quality blogs which are relevant to your niche and try to post quality, fresh, unique and informative content on the guest blogging sites. Through guest blogging, you can increase your brand awareness and can get high quality backlinks to your site.
  
  After penguin update, Google is giving importance to those websites that are active on social media sites like facebook, twitter, Google+ and share useful info with others. More number of votes you have social media sites, more importance you will get from Google.

meczaa, do check your webmaster tools. or did you not have an account with them?
By the way, do you mean your site is not in the index anymore or just the rankings are down? across all your keywords or just some?
It would be really helpful if you could describe the situation in more detail.
