Month old site just got a page rank of 6!

Hi, my newest site, which is a dating site just gained a PR of 6 after todays PR update. I honestly have no idea how. I haven't built any really high PR links, infact I've hardly done any link building at all. A few web 2.0s with tier 2 links at them, few directories, few blog comments and that's about it.

I'm slightly confused as to how this happened. I also don't know what benefit PR has, can someone explain this?

Thanks
#google pr #month #p r #page #page rank #pagerank #rank #site

This is what I'm leaning towards. A lot of times right after a PR update there are some crazy changes - which are corrected after a few days.

That's great to get such a good PR in a short amount of time. I haven't even noticed a change in PR for my sites. Did Google definitely update it today?

I'm baffled too man. My newest domain is just over a month old and I've only done two link building campaigns plus some manual blog commenting. Really hasn't been that much and I got a PR3 today. Google is a weird beast.

PR is all about links. It doesn't matter if a site is 3 weeks old or 3 years old. If it has a bunch of high PR links coming into it, it is going to have a high PR.

Getting a PR 6 is surely unusual, but if you got a handful of really good links, it is far from impossible.

How often do page ranks get updated? Is it every month?

Page ranks update all the time but Google just doesn't show us. They typically only do the visual updates 2 to 3 times a year.

You only need 1 pr8 link to reach pr6

Nik0 my young apprentice you are forgetting that there is another (said in my Yoda voice) - OBL.

Incidentally one quick way to find out if your Pagerank is going to stay is to check it against Seomoz's Mozrank. Mozrank updates more often and they had their last one Aug 1st. If they are drastically different then something is wrong.

I have quite a few new sites I built and they are showing PR0 but nearly 4s in Mozrank but I am seeing some PR4s with no backlinks still holding their PR. So it goes both ways. Right now Mozrank is far more accurate.

Learning alot of new stuff from the last two updates. My suspicion if these anomolies don't correct themselves is that the update is stale. Its not the very most recent real PR just an update using an older link graph. I would not be surprised if Google doesn't care about the accuracy of Pagerank since they would rather it had never become public. IF you think about it PR only feeds all the things they don't want - selling and buying links, spamming certain sites, SEO networks etc. SEOs being in the dark about which sites have more link juice suits organic links.

At any rate I am leaning more and more on Mozrank because Seomoz update much more frequently and gives decimal points. I know it is not as reliable across the board. Seomoz obviously has a much smaller index and it just flat out misses lots of domains but a system that update every few weeks can give you a definite better picture than relying on 4 updates per year to determine domain strength ( referring here to buying aged domains, buying selling link etc)

Plus the handwriting is on the wall that sooner or later google will either cripple external PR metrics or close down its toolbar entirely.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Just checked my backlinks using ahrefs and open site explorer, it turns out loads of people have been naturally linking to me. Most of the links are actually on the homepage with a low OBL. Some links are even site-wide!

The links are varying from PR 1-4, although I still feel like there is more to it than this.

The funny thing is my rankings aren't even that brilliant. I know there is no relation between PR and ranking, but I still wish I could rank higher, I think my site just needs a bit of age to get going.

There you go. That will do it. However I did assume the first thing you would have done is check the backlinks. PR and links go hand in hand

Google does not make mistakes when it comes to PR. This is a purely mathematical algorithm based on the value of pages that refer to a website.

You get PR6 Because one of the page that you put your site get higher PR

This explains that if you really did not how you do it.

If you know how and you wanna want to boast I send you congratulations

I got myself a few PR5 and PR6 for new sites because i know how to get PR:p

My new health site is only 2 months old and just went from a PR0 to PR2 in the last hour. Very strange.. I've done nothing other than blog commenting. Not complaining though!

My guess is that you registered an expired domain. When you created a site, Google would have seen the domain was active again and restored the PR.

It's not that unusual (well, certainly a PR6 might be, but gaining PR from an expired domain is relatively common)

Maybe Google has changed its PageRank algorithm, backlinks are not as important as before. Because more and more new websites which don't have many backlinks get high PR in lastest several updates. Weird.

Nope. You don't need to have tons of backlinks to get PR. Several links from high PR pages = PR love all around.
