Question on Keyword Research.

If you have some significant pagerank you can throw at a page, sometimes that can work, but bear in mind that Google and Amazon are working together in many ways, and Amazon is Google's best paying advertiser.

You paid $100 for the course and they don't have customer support, members area, members forum?

Frankly, it depends.

I have a product review post that is #4, and the corresponding amazon product page is at #14.

I have another product review post (from same site) that is #6, and the amazon product page is #3.

The keywords are in the format of "product name/model review".

These are low competition keywords though, so I don't know how they translate to higher competition keywords.

I find it easy to rank for a niche related term when I have a pagerank 6 site writing something about it, but just getting a bunch of average links that you see sold around here often is a losing battle (ex. profile links, or blog commenting).

I have been doing keyword research for myself and Warriors for years. Both pieces of advice that you have gotten aren't true in all cases.

The best thing you can do with any keyword phrase that you are interested in targeting is to view the page 1 competition and see the data for that competition without any preconceived notions. Just because there are authority sites, Amazon, or official site pages showing up doesn't mean that you should or should not go ahead with your efforts.

You still need to look at the data for those listings. Use the standard data to decide whether or not a listing is a weaker competitor or not. Domain name age, number of page backlinks, number of site backlinks, edu backlinks, keywords in domain/title/description, etc.

The point is not to jump to conclusions. Doing your due diligence will pay off in the end.

None of those statements are true.

You need to do a little research yourself to find out.

Very strong competition indicator are Google's omitted search results.

1. Type your keyword into Google with quotes " " (and hit search duh!)
2. move to the last results page (SERP)
3. notice the number of omitted results

Something like this:
Google omitted the results to the [NUMBER] of most relevant ....

That is your true competition. Now, I found through testing that most of the time keywords with competition below 450 are doable. You can rank within a few weeks (maybe only few days in some cases)

If the keyword passed this test proceed with research.

Now what you have to do is go through the first five results and check two things. Content and backlink profile. With content I especially mean its length. You can check backlink profile with service like aHrefs for example.

You don't have to check the main domain just pages (those pages are your true competition).

Of course keyword research is a much more complex problematic but this will give you some idea.
