Awesome share man! Interesting to see the number of web 2.0s that are getting deindexed! I wonder how many of those examples were manual actions?

Exactly and now one thing is sure that Google only loves fresh and informative content.

I don't think, web 2.0 sites are deindexed... If you use web 2.0 unnaturally of course you will, but if you use it in the way which Google prefers, you are still safe. In between, I don't see any web 2.0 examples in given 49 examples over there... lol

The "fighting spam" section was enlightening to say the least.

Interesting to see the real-life examples of sites that got manually hit (some weren't as bad as I thought they'd be).

But they manually do things very, very rarely in the overall scheme of killing
      spam.

ROTFLMAO! Because duplicate content does not matter, never has, never

of what the internet is. It's a huge, free place to share, yes share, ideas.
      Go figure.

Thousands of sites will tell you the temperature in NYC right now. So?
Hundreds of sites will have the same reuters news story, word for word. So?
Millions of sites have copied text from wikipedia. So?
Millions of sites have text copied from wikipedia...so?

Why would google care about duplicate content, just for duplicate
      content's sake? Makes no sense.

But then, I wonder why google is not hiring people like we have here.
I mean google is hurting. Nobody is using it. They are losing billions.

Google is very, very ignorant about duplicate content. Matt Cutts even said they can't detect the original source when content is stolen, then rank the stealing site above the original source. If Google had a single brain cell, they would be able to determine who the original source was then deindex any page from the thieving website that re-publishes it to their website.

I've played guitar for 25+ years, I write about guitars / gear and lessons to teach people how to play guitar. I am a master in my field and love to share my knowledge. I have over 6,000 pages of unique content posted. Guess how many are scrapped and stolen? ALMOST ALL OF THEM! The problem is 'many' of these stealing websites are outranking my content (the original content). Google is too stupid to realize where the original source came from, even if my page was indexed 12 months before the THIEF re-publsihed it on their spam blogspot account, Google would rather have spam blog gfaffagae.blogspot.com with 29 spam links in the post outrank the original source. And you can't figure this out? I'm sure they can, they just don't care.
Funny thing is, my content outranks spam sites on Yahoo! and Bing... so they know how to get it right, but Google can't. Lol

If Google 'cared' about spam, they would spend some time dealing with duplicate content issues.

Why would Google deindex any page which republishes content from another site? What about content that is syndicated from article directories and news sources?

If Google cannot detect the original source as you said then why do they have a DMCA form where you can request to have content removed that someone has copied from your site. If they had no way of knowing if you submitted the content to your site first then what would be the point of this.

Because it is spam and clutters the search engines with useless crap that's already been published. How many word for word articles does Google need? Just one! Duplicate articles should not be indexed, period.

Yo Yo YO. My boy Yuke posting at 4 PM. School bus late today eh mate? or was it detention. You know...Friday detention SUCKS

Now whats that all about me? You in love or something? Sweet on scientists with goggles or just superior SEOs Cause there aint nothing new in that link in the OP and doesn;t address anything I have said. Like Nada which if you forgot from your spanish class last week means - nothing. In college (if you make it) its like Russian Nyet. Anyone using a freshness strategy to rank long term as a key technique is still silly as dirt.

You just learning QDF Yuke and needed this to know it was in the algo? Wait till you find out adsense money comes from adwords and its not Google being like Mother Theresa and giving you kisses with pennies.

Fire up the xbox though dude .Its the weekend and Junior High is out but do the homework before Monday morning cause....Monday detentions SUCKS too.

(Yuke is like - man how he know? I thought the couple posts on my android I made at school would fool him or would throw him off ..LOL)

Interesting, but a lot of good points in this thread.

Spam still ranks, obviously, some of my competitors rank with some methods that I thought quit working years ago.

But google definitely has had some "anti-spam" improvements in the last few years, I mean if you check out all the spam forums and stuff a lot of them are still complaining.

But lets be honest, google is just an algorithm. They'll never really release how it works, and it will always be able to be gamed.

It has to rank based off of something, and there's no way that it'll be able to be perfect. That's why I love the field of SEO, it changes a lot, but it'll always be around

This one is very interesting seeing as how you guys were talking about duplicate content

Supermarkets agree to end 'yo-yo pricing' with new code - Business, Your Money and Finance

Its not gibberish or spun. Its just a verbatim copy of this

BBC News - Supermarkets agree to end 'yo-yo pricing' with new code

Would have loved to known whether this was all manual or automatic. In this case its obvious because it seems it just copies BBC repeatedly
