I'm developing my first website and blog. I'm having trouble with my backlinking.

I'm submitting to over 25 different article directories with my link anchored as work at home. I'm also submitting to social book marks through socialposter and socialmarker. Also I've set up links with anchor text back to my blog on social networks but google isn't recognizing any of the back links.

Is there something I'm doing wrong or does it just take google awhile before they recognize them?

Any help would be much appreciated.

First, you need to vary your anchor text. Google considers a rapid increase in backlinks with the same anchor text as potential search engine spam.

Keep doing what you are doing with the articles, but try to make certain you vary the post times and vary the content so it is unique.

You also need to make certain your website is SEO optimized and you have included the keywords and title tags and all that other stuff for your on page SEO.

There are probably tons of other things you could be doing like submitting videos to video sharing sites... but you are moving in the right direction.

      Hi Dennis,

Can you give us a number range for the word 'rapid'? How many backlinks in what time frame is too much? Just to get a better idea on how to pace my link building...

Ive just started doing some SEO and that would be very useful for me to know.

      Thanks!

Google is notorious with their misleading ways, they will never show you all your back links. A better alternative is yahho's site explorer. However even yahoo (and I'd guess everythig lese) has a certain lag between a link going live and it being shown in site explorer.

It takes google awhile to get your back links showing up on there index. If you really want to start getting google backlinks I was placing another page of mine in every blog post. This was getting me google back links from my own blog even though they where using the same domain name but located in different places.

Google crawls each site depending on their popularity. So it might take them up to a month to find that new link that points to your site. Also Google index is so massive that it takes quite some time to re-calculate it and make the new link juice take effect.

So all in all it might take like 3 months before you get the full benefit of that link.

Natural links originate in having quality content that people want to link to. Building quality content and varying your anchor text should come first, next focusing on building your links and then start submitting to social bookmarking sites, using RSS feed directories, forum signature links, and interlinking between your own articles.

Only Google know the answer to that one zoheb. The point was to make certain you vary anchor text. Pick out the keywords you want to target. It could be as few as 10. Then just randomly vary the use of those keywords as anchor text. As long as you are making an attempt to vary your anchor text you should be fine.

Also "rapid" was referring to the process of possibly outsourcing your SEO to someone and having them link using only one keyword. I don't know the specific number, but Google's algorithm would certainly take notice if a new site over night all of a sudden had 500 backlinks using an identical keyword for anchor text.

Google is Google... You will only see your backlinks after 3 months or six months, some even a year... but they are there and they have already been indexed. It just doesn't show.

Just to throw in my two cents here...

I think the keyword work at home may also be too competitive and hard to get a top ranking in the SERPs. You might want to try going a little more long tail with the keyword / phrase you are targeting.

And like it has been mentioned before it can take months to get a top ranking. But if you use social media 2.0 sites, especially video, you could get ranked in hours.

All the best to you and be persistent
