SEO - Do backlinks need other text? Or not?

When setting up backlinks to your site, does Google like to see extra text, or not?

For example:

1. my keyword phrase

2. This paragraph is all about my keyword phrase, so I hope you like it.

Which of the above will be more effective? Or does it not matter?

Thanks...

In my eyes, the more words around the link, they more likely it is to get indexed by Google. It looks too much like SPAM otherwise

Its said that in content Links are of the highest value , so the second would be better IMO

I believe it's not so much the text around the link, but the anchor text itself that needs a little diversity (some four to five variants of the wording, distributed evenly, might be a suggestion to consider).

I would preffer second version. But if links are sitewide in some blogroll then clearly you can not use them. I preffer sitewide links with site title, and incontent with variations.

Anchor text diversity in links you get is extremely important. If all links going to your site have the same anchor text, wouldn't that look shady? Google likes diversity.

Well, thanks, but that wasn't really the question.

Off course it is. You asked if Google likes the extra text and I told it does like. Your keywords + more text diversity is good!

Edit: ah sorry, I re-read what you said and you're right

What were the tests that were performed to prove up this theory?

Id like to read up on it and provide a recap of the findings to my readers on my list.

      Thank you,

      Steve

Steve, the natural link profile topic came up recently when people started to get worried about Google penalizing things that "don't look natural".

I don't think anyone can actually prove 100% that things are like I said, but many people talk about it and recommend it:
        Google

It's a preventive strategy. Better safe than sorry.
