Set the alert up as a feed (automatically) putting it in your Google Reader

Then follow up with article sites that pick up...

Is there a way to see what ads are running on Facebook and check their clickthrough rates and or cost per click, much like you can for adwords?

Yeap I agree with this post.

The key is not setting out rageous goals to start but also sticking to it and scaling up. $4k a month is a nice baseline and entirely possible.
