Multiple Joint Venture instead of VC

Hi Im Developing a website/platform that will be ready in around 3 months time, its a idea that I have had for a while which is burning inside me, I really believe it will work for my niche.

I have been thinking ahead as I realise if I want to really take it somewhere I would need some angel investors and then in the longterm VC like most succesful online business.

The last few days I have been thinking and think I may of come accross another way to take the site forward so here me out guys and then give some feedback negative as well as positive.

Basically although I have a niche I will be targeting, there is probally about 6 other niches this site could be tailored to, now imagine you can also launch the site in every counrty in the world (196). But lets face it the majority of the countries would not be worth targeting due to size ect, but lets say we targeted the top 25 richest countries in the world, straight away thats 150 (6x25) sub sites all uder the same branding.

Now lets face it I would have my hands full with one niche in one country but if I could intrest another 150 entrueners/marketers/investors to take on a niche/country and use my website platform, then we could really get somewhere fast.

One of the main benefits I see, would be each marketer would use ther own unique way to make the site work and gain visitors, after each month the analytics of each sub site could be digested and in essence the most succesful sites tactics could be used by other site owners to improve there niche/website and creating a ever evolving brand together, with the end result being the market leader in the industry.

Now I have not thought too much about figures too much but if I worked on that the split would be 80/20% on all profits me being the 20% ( not bad 150 x 20%).

Some would say why would I not be best to just copy your website and do my own niche/country and earn 100% profit on my own and my answer would be that with a combined effort of 150 sub brances there would be no way you could compete with the main big superpower of all our analytics and brand and even with only 80% of the profits you would make far more than 100% profits doing your own thing.

In reality this is just a co-operative or franchise really.

just to finish off the website I have built is in drupal and the main functionality would be the same on each site the only difference would be fields and terms which could be changed easily for each, nich and country.

sorry for the long post ! Opinions guys ?

      You haven't told us anything.

It does sound like you are looking to franchise this. Nothing sells franchises like success, so I wouldn't spend much time planning this out until you have proof of concept with the main launch.

If your assumptions about your product, its uses, and its marketability are all correct, your multiple joint venture idea may well work. The problem is that your assumptions are almost certainly wrong -- and wrong in critical ways. This isn't a comment about you or your product -- the same is true for almost every single company. Things don't go according to plan and it's your job to respond and adjust accordingly. Or, in the words of Steve Blank, "A startup is an organization formed to search for a repeatable and scalable business model." (Source: What's A Startup? First Principles. | Steve Blank)

I bring this up because right now, you don't have anything close to a proven business model. You have a potentially great product and you have hypotheses about how it could be used, marketed and monetized. But until you actually test those hypotheses I think you'd be crazy to try to expand so quickly. First make it work in one case, then figure out how to expand and grow from there. Most likely you'll already have enough work to do without recruiting and managing 150 JV relationships anyway.

Thanks Kilgore, I was actually thinking earlier about the need to start off by myself first and see if I can get business to my platform before trying to sell this idea of expansion to others.

Obviously a business with proof of sucess would attract better JV partners and yes your right about not having the time to set up 150 joint ventures at the moment, its more of a idea for the future and i was just getting feedback of the idea and not looking to start straight away, I think if it was to happen in the future, I would be looking to impement it slower by adding JV partners one by one over time.

Also thanks for the link sent over it was a good read, I might use the business plan Model for this business, cheers
