Software: Squidoo + HubPages + Wordpress + Blog creation tool - anyone interested?

by minion
30 replies
I'm working on a tool that will automate the creation of pages on multiple platforms (ie: Wordpress, squidoo, facebook etc), and allow the user to manage all of them from one place

I've been working on it for myself, but thought I'd post it here to see if anyone was interested in:
1 - Using it
2 - Selling it
3 - Partnering to bundle link building (whether as a seperate service, or building it into the product for a % of sales)
4 - Anything else?

I think it could be quite popular for micro niches. Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?

I've got another project to finish up first, so it's on hold at the moment but if people are interested I'll put it next on the list.

Oh also - the work is all performed offsite. This allows it to be very fast without using up the user's bandwidth. Obviously, I'd have to price it to cover the hosting costs.

Sounds interesting, minion. I'd be interested in it, first, as a user, and then maybe - if it proves to be of great value - selling it.

I think you're on to something with a huge potential.

Great - that's very good to hear. I come up with new ideas all the time so have quite a few half-finished projects - I'm determined to get this one finished now.

Hi - yes, that's the idea. Obviously not all features are compatible across platform, so there are some things that it can't do. (yet)

minion, where do you get content to create the pages? Is it unique or grabbed from rss feeds etc.? How is your tool will be different from/better than already existing ones such as senuke-x, seolink robot which can create pages on dozens of web2.0's and much more?

I guess you are aware that squidoo and especially hubpages have very strict moderation policies , which means that pages with any commercial hype or those trying to promote something may get banned pretty soon.

    Hi

Content will be generated by the user. We're trying to build in a "page builder" into the software as well which will basically let the user create their page using drag+drop.. Not sure if it will make it into the first release though.
Didn't think of using generated content though - might look at that as well.

I created the tool because I wanted a central place to manage different web 2.0 sites - As far as I'm aware, SENuke/SEOLinkbot etc only create the page (ie: not update it). It's something I've been wanting to do for a while.. I'm not trying to build a competitor to SENuke, it was just something for myself - thought I should ask if other people were interested.

Wasn't aware of those policies though. As long as we stay within the rules, it should be fine though?

Squidoo specifically forbids using auto tools to build lenses, so it would be hard for this tool to stay within their rules.

That's right - this was the original idea - a single application that will update and manage multiple websites at once. So you create a single article and post it to multiple websites at once (very similar to something like SENuke). Difference between this and SENuke is, it's not just creation, but full editing and management capabilities - all from one interface.

Also has the ability to manage different websites - if for example, you have 10 different wordpress installations in 10 different niches - no need to log into each one to post updates.

I have a feeling that your idea is still unclear. When you create a software/system you need to be very clear about the terms of the sites. I can tell you for sure that hubpages have one of the strict moderation in place (automatic and even manual). So you need to forget posting curated content on hubpages. Duplicate article or even spun article in hubpages can be extremely damaging to your web2.0 profiles. These are flagged pretty soon by real readers and reported.

I suggest you think out your blueprint again.

Those policies exist to protect the quality of their website - and that's fair enough. At what point does a tool become banned though? There are plugins you can get for a browser that automatically fill out forms etc - this is a form of automation that I think would be perfectly acceptable. I'm providing a tool that gives users a way to create, update and manage their web 2.0 profiles from a single interface without having to log into each one independently. It's up to them whether they choose to use this tool effectively or not.

I have created some automated tools in the past that linked a client's sales and inventory software to a popular auction website. They also ran some other software that automatically created the auctions for them. This auction site explicitly forbids any automate tools/robots in their terms and conditions - yet the client ran this tool for years, became one of the largest sellers, increased their sales by a huge amount - and all along this site was aware they were using a tool. Why? Because they used it effectively, and in a way that didn't ruin the quality of their website.

Sure, the tool can be used to create low-quality spam - but that isn't why I created it. I do not plan on promoting it as a spamming tool, or as "instant backlink" software. It is simply a tool that allows users to manage multiple web 2.0 profiles and other websites efficiently from a single interface. It works within the same rules as a web-browser.

    What it does:
    - Create and manage Squidoo, HubPages, Wordpress profiles and content
    - Make changes while in offline mode, and apply them when online
    - Perform these changes using your local machine, or forward them to our network allowing you to switch off your computer.
    - Allows you to provide quality content to your users much faster and easier than doing it manually

    What it does not do:
    - It does not automatically build a network of links
    - It does not automatically generate spammy content to add to your profiles/sites
    - It does not attempt to manipulate these websites to artificially increase popularity/exposure

Basically, it's a tool that aims to save you time. I consider my time to be very valuable, which is why I created it in the first place. If it can help save just an hour per day, it's done it's job.

    Here's an example:
You have just 3 websites set up, all providing high-quality, relevant information and articles to their audience. You spend 1-2 hours per day on each of these - logging in, writing content, responding to comments etc. Now you want to scale up to 30 sites - what are your options?
    1 - Outsource the work.
    2 - Hire a couple of full-time employees.
3 - Use a tool that allows you to update and manage these 30 sites in less than an hour.

I'd always pick number 3 - it frees up not only your time, but your employees and freelancers as well, allowing you to expand even more.

And that's what the name "minion" is about - having an army of minions to pass off time-consuming tasks to, and free up your time.

I hope this clears up any confusion about what the software actually does. Re: policies/terms and conditions - We will stay within the rules as much as possible.

I'm just starting to get back into squidoo after a long absence from it. Any tool to help automate the process of managing a series of lenses safely would be beneficial in my view. Hit me up with a pm if you'd like an honest beta tester, or if nothing else, to know when you might release it.

    Thanks,

    -Michael

    Hi.
Isn't Hubpages "no follow"? At least at the beginning. Squidoo I think is "noindex" until you promote your lens, so you should take these into consideration because creating the pages is not enough.

I would have thought that such a tool would have been of really great interest - particularly for Squidoo Lenses which can be VERY time consuming and awkward to construct !! + it's very easy to miss important sections !!.

    Any progress so far ??.

    Looking forward to seeing something,

    Bozzie.
