What does "list building" mean for me?

Hello, everyone. My name is David. I recently purchased myself access for the "War Room" forum, and so far I am loving it! I'm already seeing tons of valuable information. However, everything just isn't clicking with me yet.

In multiple threads now, I have seen users reference "list building." Is this what it sounds like; building a list of potential customers to sell to, email, etc.?

I am just trying to figure out where to get started, so I am wondering if building such a list is the first necessary step. I'm pretty serious about becoming an Internet marketer, so any replies are greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Thanks for the response, arni22! Perhaps I am thinking too much, but how do I go about building my first list? I'm assuming I simply make note of potential customers and try to sell from there?

I appreciate your patience with me!

Hi David. Having a list of subscribers is definitely one method to get you started. Start by having something which people can opt in to, eg. Squeeze page or opt-in box. Give something free with quality value to make people sign up. Once they sign up, you can start to market your products or services to them.

And if you have not noticed, the Internet Marketing Gurus we see today, all of them have their list of loyal subscribers. I hope it gives you a hint of how important it is.

Thanks for the information! I already have a few eBooks worth giving away, so perhaps that could be my starting point.

List building is definitely the most stable thing you can do in IM as far as I'm concerned.

I don't care what type of site you are making, BUILD A LIST of clients from EVERY one of your niches!

It makes product launches 100x easier, and you can control your traffic.

Anyone who doesn't have a list of prospects for their niche is DOING IT WRONG!

You can start by building a squeeze page with a giveaway, but make sure the giveaway is awesome!

If you give away a crappy product, your subs will view you as someone who doesn't know what they are doing.

If you write a good product and know what you are talking about you will build instant authority status to your subs and they will trust your opionions, and trust is the key to making money on any kind of list.

Thanks for the great information! You're really giving me a good idea on where to start. I appreciate your help.

One last question and then I'm done! I promise. Because I am new to list building, who exactly do I promote my squeeze page to? I am assuming this will be built organically through search and SEO.

I also have a large YouTube following of more than 54,000 subscribers and 14,000+ Twitter followers. However, I can already guarantee you the majority of my audience will look at my squeeze page as "spam." I've seen these types of pages before, so I know where they are coming from. I guess I just need to be careful and put a personal spin on things.

Start here with 2-3 solo's and then go to swapping ad's to build your list
Works great and is newcomer friendly

Once you build your list you will also need to find a good way to contact them with newsletters or at least an attractive HTML email. There are many high quality email newsletter providers that can help your campaigns deliverability hover up near 95%-100% delivery.
I would say that once you begin emailing your list try to make sure that every mailing contains something special as this will leave an impression of your emails as being valuable and it will definitely affect your click through rate and conversions when you go to make an offer.
    Good luck!

List building is the way most of the gurus made and still make their money.

It's the one marketing method that actually works when you get it right, and can work in a big way.

The gurus leverage each others' lists when they bring out new products and once you've got a decent sized list of your own you can use sites like Safe Swaps in a similar way, using other people's lists to get your products and sites out to potential new buyers.

Hi David, like people have commented safe swaps and solo ads, getting a squeeze page up. Like the saying goes "Money is in the list", but you should look at providing value to your list and share with your list, connect with them be personable and interactive. These are real people on the other end that have families etc..If you develop a trust and provide value to your list you will not only be successful but probably develop some good relationships along the way! Good luck to you!

I have to agree with all the comments above. One thing i've come to realise, is when all these so called guru's cliam they make $30,000 a month, it's usually down to their list and the quality of the product they are offering.

Having a big list is ok, but having a responsive list is great. Providing quality to your list will always beat quanity.

There are only 3 key tools you need.
    1. a squeeze page
2 an autoresponder (to interact with your list)
    3. an offer/product.

Once you get people on your list, get to know them and get personal.

Good Luck with your list buidling.
