YouTube reportedly planning to challenge TikTok with new short-form video

Rumour has it that YouTube will release a short-form video sharing feature called "Shorts", which is slated to compete with TikTok by year-end. Shorts will reportedly be part of YouTube's mobile app, and will have access to its licenced music library so any users can add music as they please.

YouTube hasn't formally announced the new short-form video feature however, but I'm expecting a release sometime this Q3 or Q4.

    I do not think it is the best, is to remove essence from the platform, if they do they should innovate not copy

    We've seen this happen before with Vine. Once other platforms started realizing the power of short videos, stories, quick-format type of content they all implemented it into their platform.

    This also led to the decline in snapchat's popularity. The only solution for Tiktok is to continue to innovate.

    Yes, you need to do something to compete with TikTok. TikTok is the fastest growing social media platform nowadays. It would be interesting to see how YouTube will add this feature.

    Yes indeeed. Youtube is not only competing with tiktok but also facebook and other social media platforms. I was browsing on facebook and then I happen to see stories arranged the very same way that facebook does. It was kind of cool. As much as it may have been copied. I still like it. Making shirt videso is not that difficult.
