There's something you really ought to know: TikTok is what younger audiences are using to search

A new article on Social Media Today asks if TikTok could really become a really competitor in the web search and discovery - and move into Google's territory.

Seem far-fetched to you?

Well, Google's Senior Vice President Prabhakar Raghavan recently shared that the search giant does indeed see this as a risk:

"In our studies, something like almost 40% of young people, when they're looking for a place for lunch, they don't go to Google Maps or Search. They go to TikTok or Instagram."
The volume of searches that could imply is significant, with hundreds of millions of searches being conducted every minute via Google's apps. If TikTok and Instagram are eating into that, that could have big implications, and not just for Google itself, but also for brands and businesses looking to connect with younger audiences, and maximize their discovery opportunities.

So, are you ahead of the game? Do you have a TikTok SEO plan in place?

If you're yet to be convinced, be aware that TikTok is also leaning into discovery. It offers a range of new features, aside from its main eCommerce push. Recently, the platform began experimenting with linked keywords within comments and video descriptions, which guide user discovery by connecting them through to broader trends. Certain keywords, including product names, now autolink through to search results for that term, helping to facilitate more search activity, and get users engaging with product discovery in the app.

Also, TikTok.com overtook Google as the most visited domain in the world in 2021 and there's a fairly clear picture forming, in regards to TikTok being a key destination for discovery in 2022.

This is from Mashable:

"People are sick of the Google recipe algorithm that prioritizes obscure search engine optimized blogs. It's been a running joke on the internet that in order to read a recipe you have to get through the blogger's entire life story, but this is actually deterring the young people I talked to from searching for recipes on Google. Because a TikTok has to quickly grab your attention, recipe videos on the platform are to the point, putting the focus on the food, not the creator."
Food for thought?

40%? Google doesn't like this news
TikTok madness...what's so addictive with this social media? it's just because is the current hottest thing? I tend to try new social media with an open mind, and I have done that with Tik Tok, but I just don't get it, I don't see anything revolutionary or wowy...Am I getting old?

To me, TikTok is the latest proof that you can't cure stupid....

I think the addictive part of social media is the 'me me me' atmosphere.

    Yeah, that's the real pandemic

Validation is like a drug, specially if you are in need of it and social media gives all what cheap dopamine junkies want

I didn't believe this when I saw it in an article, but teenagers on TikTok said it themselves!

Success is relative... when IG was the hot thing (like TikTok is today), I was successful in FB and Twitter while most of my peers weren't successful in IG haha stick to your guns, you can make money anywhere if you master it!

Yeah, however I don't think is a bad idea if you can and have the resources to deploy an strategy in a new hot social media. In 2018 I decided to jump in the IG wagon and I grew a 10k account organically (1 post a day) in like 1-2 months...That's a pretty nice result for the invested time, try that now in IG, you maybe get 100 followers

As long as it doesn't distract you, you can leverage new sources of traffic, but just because they are hot or easier to grow doesn't mean they are magic or doesn't have a learning curve

Years of fake reviews on Google are taking a toll on the business model I guess. But then again, it's only a matter of time before the same happens to TikTok.
