XSitePro Assistance Needed
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

When my laptop was fatally infected my XSitePro backups worked for the most part. Unfortunately two didn't. I need someone to get them off the hosting area and into XSitePro so that I can make needed changes. As you can tell, I'm not very knowledgeable in this area.

Anybody up to working in this area?

Thank you!

One of the features of XSitePro is that you can create web pages very quickly.
This is possible because XSitePro breaks up the page in to section (header, footer, side panels and main panel).
This allows you to just focus on creating the section of the page that do not change much once.

The downside of this is that it is very difficult the import a published web-page and automatically split the page in to sections.

It is possible to recreate your existing website in XSitePro.
A published website is made up of standard website files, as these files are not in XSitePro format, it is impossible to import them as if it was a XSitePro export file or a backup.

What you can do however is recreate the design from the existing online website in XSitePro and then copy each page's content and paste it into newly created page.

You can save the images from you online website onto your hard drive a few different ways.
a) You can right click on the image on the website and select 'Save Image as...' (This may vary between different browsers)
b) You can type in your URL of your website and include '/images' at the end to view a directory listing of your images. For example 'http://www.yoursite.com/images'. Some servers do not allow directory listings.
c) You can access your server via a FTP client and browse to the images folder. A great FTP client you could use is 'Filezilla':

By the way, if you have XSitePro and you are looking for an easy way to create off site backups, using the XSitePro Export feature creates .xse export files that can be saved to external storage. DropBox is a good for this.

You can find the manual section on importing and exporting XSE files here:
Import/Export

I produced video on exporting and importing and XSE files:

Thanks for the info. The two sites were originally done on XSitePro. I had been in touch with XSitePro support frequently for this issue. I was told I would need to recreate the site. I've done some of that. I just don't have time to do that while doing product creation.

I'll check out elance and see if I can get support there... or maybe I should go to the XSitePro forum and see if anyone wants the job... that's a novel idea.

Hi

Are you using a custom template or one of the built in ones ?

This has happened to me a few times, if your site is online still you need to just copy the content back into your template and upload it again with any revisions.

It's a real pain and time consuming but I can't really think of a quicker way unfortunately.

I have xsitepro, PM me if I can help out.
