I always have to pay someone to update my css website, (ie: social media tabs in my footer). I would like to learn how to maintain it myself but not sure exactly what I need. Dreamweaver? I'm computer savvy and know other software so I can learn. I just want to make sure I have the right tools.

In my opinion Dreamweaver doesn't make much sense. You'd be a lot better off with a free software such as Notepad++

The next step would be to read up as many tutorials on the subject as you can. A great way to learn something is to first think what it is that you are trying to accomplish and then Googling the appropriate tutorials.

So basically you don't really need to work that hard in learning to actually code, but you need to think systematically and always ask the right questions from the internet

This way you will build something of value while at the same time learn to code without even realizing it.

  • I like Dreamweaver and use it often as a code editor. It is a semi visual editor too. There are cheaper alternatives, as mentioned free Notepad ++ but you need to know code first to use that, or at least be willing to learn. NetBeans is an all inclusive IDE that is pretty powerful and free. I use it when developing WordPress sites because of how it handles PHP. Visual Studio Web Express is another free one I use sometimes. Mostly when working with .ascx pages for DNN sites, but is a useful webpage editor.
