Do you charge your client for registering your client's domain?

Hi guys and gals, for those of you who design web sites for clients, do you you register their domain for them? If so, do you charge them for this service? Is this charge a one time charge or do you charge them every year for renewal?

I personally just want to charge $20 once for registering them their domain and then put their contact information in the whois information. I would let them renew their domain every year on their own. I don't want to charge $20 every year for each client

Also, what if you charge them for this domain registration service but then you can't find "theircompanyname.com"
because it's already taken by someone else? Do you go for the .net? Or refund them?

    This process for me is a sit down meeting at their office or mine, and I register the site with their card, their e-mail and their who-is information. I don't "Charge" for this, but the time is allotted in my build process, so It basically is covered in the charge of building the site.

    This process removes the hassles in terms of the decision of .net, or whatever else may happen in terms of a name already being used.. you are there together and work through it, and move on to the next phase.

    I prefer to stay away from hosting/domain unless the clients pay a monthly retainer for website maintenance.
